    Panhead backfiring, help!

This is in reference to 1951 FL, rebuilt(again) and tuned recently.

Yesterday I was riding all morning, and the engine sounded as strong as it ever has. Yes, it is crazy hot outside, but it was running great. After lunch time, I was riding through the city, then it started popping and backfiring, and wouldn't stop, doing it worse at higher RPM. So there's the story of when it happened, here's symptoms & diagnosis.

Spent about 5hrs tearing it down from here to figure why it was backfiring out of the carb AND the exhaust. Seemed like a timing thing, but here we go
    - checked plugs, they looked good
    - checked all intake leaks, all tight from manifold and around carb
    - checked all push rods, and dialed
    - checked carb, even replaced with new Super E, same issue
    - checked timing, dialed
    - checked condenser, as this sounded just like it, replaced with brand new condenser, same issue
    - checked and replaced entire auto advance with new one, same issue
    - Tested battery, which has recently been changed to an 8-cell Antigravity battery, yes overkill in battery size, other conventional one went out and I had this lying around, tested good.

So there's got to be something I'm missing, anyone?!?!?

With everything else checking good, I'd drain tanks and put in fresh gas. Since water will go to bottom need to get the tanks completely dry. Only ways I know to get absolutely water free gas is to run through a chamois or put gas in freezer for a few hours and let any moisture freeze. Wouldn't put in a freezer used for food storage

If you're running circuit breakers check them. Sounds electrical to me.

Right on, checked all the above, drained gas, checked filter, checked coil, checked cams, tight compression again..... then BOOM, fucking Antigravity battery was throwing some crazy volts as it went bad. After ALLLLLL that, it was a bad battery. Mother Fucker! Thanks guys!
