Today was a good day. I washed the tank and fender so I could package them up and send them off to the painter so he would be able to create a tribute paint job on the replacement tank and fender.

But as I was scrubbing the grime off the fender the white haze I thought was lacquer checking started to slowly disappear. It turns out that the white haze was old white enamel overspray. Guessing they probably painted the ceiling of the room the bike was stored in and didn't bother to put a cover over it.

I grabbed some 2000 grit wet paper with no block and just touched it by hand, then went to 3M finishing compound on a slow turning (350 rpm) open faced wool pad, and finished with Mother's pure carnauba wax on a foam pad at 900 rpm.

Its awesome and perfectly compliments all that chrome. There's still cracks in the lacquer, chipped out sections, and bare metal but I'll just have those areas filled in with lacquer. Love the idea that I'll have the option to show it/ride it with either the tribute paint job or the original.

An aquaintence of mine has been running Lake injectors for years. If you need help in that area I can get you in touch with him.
