motley crue motorcycles & helmets
the other day i was watching heavy metal videos on TV(i do that often) and saw the video for motley crue GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS.
hadent seen it since i dont know when.
well, now i'm looking at it more critically.
when it came out in 1987 i was into choppers and i even saw them on that tour(in MD).
i remember at the time there was a helmet law in VA(where i live) but it was optional in MD(it aint now).
anyhow, my question is.....
in the video the guys are riding thru town. LA i assume. w/o helmets.
was CA still helmet optional in 1987? i know they aint now.
or was the video filmed on a closed set/blocked off street. if you were motley crue back than you could afford that.
or maybe filmed in another state like FL w/o a helmet law?
maybe. there is the Doll House in fort lauderdale. i've been there.
yeah, its a dumb question, but its motorcycle related and i often overthink things

i do know that nikki, tommy, and vince ride. but mick? i aint goofing on the man. i know he has some odd degenerative bone dizease.
but you dont see him "ride"
god damn! whats wrong w/ me?

Well...since I saw the Seventh Veil in the background i'd say it was LA...The only chopper in the vid is the one being kickstarted in the first few
seconds of the vid. Lotta posturing in that vid, thought the Crue were punks but still loved their stuff.
Go get some sleep.Do ya need some limey to tell you all this? He,he.

good call on the 7th vail.
i didnt catch that cause either my drunken/sleepy vision wasnt up to par or cause i was on the smallish screen on the computer in my garage.
anyhow, the main question was..was there a helmet optional law in CA in 1987?
i know there are plenty of CA members on this board. w/o trying to sound like a dick i'm also sure there are CA members that were only 10 or 12 or 15 years old in 1987.
i know its trivial, but that's what i was getting at.

The mandatory helmet law here in California was passed in 1992.
But as far as music videos are concerned (or movies, tv shows, etc), producers can get permits to "violate" the law for "entertainment purposes". Like for example- guys running around on public streets with automatic weapons. Totally illegal, but permitted for "entertainment purposes" if you have a permit. Same goes for guys riding without helmets or going 100 mph on public streets in movies, etc.

The bike being kick started in the studio track is supposedly Nikki's "Five Kings" bike. I dunno about the video, I think it was another bike of his. The "Five Kings" bike is one of his personal choppers that I wouldn't mind cloning, and possibly one of the baddest chops of the late 80s, Dual Mag, Dual Carb, springer shovel hardtail....

However I will say this, fuck Motley Crue.... I like their music and still do but as a dude who worked security for them I was about to kick Vince and Tommy in the fuckin teeth before a show in St Louis a few years ago. Let me just say we all put our pants on the same way, so no matter what you have or how much success you find in life everyone's grave is the same size, act accordingly.

I also love that bike; on display at Hard Rock Casino LV, But Tommys bike is the one that I like better. Both on cover Easy Rider early 90's. Wondering if any of you know who built that bike?

around ten years ago street chopper mag did a several page article on "The bikes
of Motley Crue" Vince, Nicki, & Tommy all had raked chops with sugar bear front ends,
& I believe Kounts Kustoms in vegas built the 3 chops. (Mick did not have a chop).
By the way..... some of You Crue fans may remember back in the 80's when Vince Neil
wrecked His Pantera, killing the singer of Hanoi Rocks (charged with manslaughter).
It happened right in front of My beach front apartment(The Sand Castle) on "The Esplanade" in Redondo Beach.
My Cousin and I were among the 1st few people at the scene, I was dumbfounded when I discovered
a shitfaced Vince Neil getting out of the Pantera! I knew He lived in Redondo at the time, But it still
blew me away. Vince's passenger (Hanoi rock singer) was dead or close to it, a few others
were checking for a pulse, But No luck, My cousin and I were trying to help the Girls in the other car
that Vince hit. I think He only did like 6 months in jail.Last edited by Revelator; 08-05-2016 at 8:41 PM.
