Anyone ever cut and lowered a sporty tank?
I have a spare sporty tank and im trying to get some info on cutting it down height wise to get closer to an xr750 profile. Is it reasonable? Im trying to picture it in my head and figure out how bad it would be or i just gotta buy a tank, any help appreciated guys

Do you need advice on improving your googling technique or your welding ...? (Check the images pages rather than text links)

Reminds me a little of the lines of the 1970s XLCR (link).Last edited by None; 07-17-2016 at 8:11 AM.

All you need to do is cut out the tunnel and mount. Sit the tank over the back bone at the desired position. Measure how deep front and rear the tunnel needs to be. Roll up a new tunnel, weld that in and then do the new mounts

he's not talking about a frisco mount or lowering the mounting on the tank
he's talking about changing the height of the actual tank
making the tank smaller

they narrowed and lowered this tank

Hell I don't think that there's much that hasn't been done to sporty tanks. Ive seen the lowered, Friscoed, caved in sides, molded shapes, raised fill cap, hidden fill cap, narrowed, widened and even saw one cut into a cafe racer seat back to match the one on front. They are an iconic starting point, but is still more fun to cut up something realy rare!
