I'd like to find out if the Tech Cycle kit uses an unmodified later model starter and just a special backing plate. One post in the thread says its the same size.

If you buy one please take clear pics before installation.

Happy to say , after replacing the starter housing , the gears line up and the bike starts no problem!
So here's what went down ... Needle bearing on starter housing destroyed, replaced with aftermarket bearing ( Bam parts ).
Little bit of play on the jackshaft. Solenoid looked very bad so replaced it with an Accel solenoid... Still did not work correctly, kept popping out and bendix gear would hit the side of Ring Gear.... Ordered rebuild kit with the housing ... Replaced everything inside... Including the aftermarket bearing and brass washer behind jackshaft... I believe this was giving me grief, the play in the " Bam " bearing and the thickness of the brass washer was significantly worn and thinner than the one in the rebuild kit... The replacement bearing used is a Koyo needle bearing po # 67511 ... Zero play in this bearing ...
Thanks for the feedback on this matter , very much appreciated!
Now if I can get the primary case to stop leaking .... Lol !

Glad you finally won the battle!

Who did you get the rebuild kit and housing from? I've got one to put together and finding aftermarket shit that fits can be a motherfucker.
