Oh that's not a problem with Dynas, FXRs yes but not Dynas

Never seen one with two bolts in the piston, usually at least one gets out the exhaust.

Pictures? New thread? this one is supposed to be machine porn not wreckage.

Just had a chat with the owner..

He said that the HSR carb had one hole of the three mounting holes stripped out... Said that he left it out...
Hadn't pulled the air cleaner just yet... But if that is so... There will be none to see...!!!!

Now how in the Hell can this be...

I strongly believe that there is more to this story than I'm being told..

          An HSR?

I haven't seen an air cleaner set up that would let the bolts in if the backing plate or cover was intact. The sleeves sure, but they're usually threaded. I haven't seen them all though I'd wager.

          Whadaya got?

            What I got is a mystery ... ???

Those bolts are not from the air cleaner..
It's as if someone pulled a spark plug and dropped them in....???

I wonder if one of his ex's is out to get him....

Outstanding machinist forum every pro or hobby machinist can learn from. Metrology section and vintage machinery areas are good stuff.

Here's the South Bend forum: http://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/south-bend-lathes/

Nice borescope pic. It's either an epic dumbass story or someone didn't like the owner.

The Practical Machinist Forum is incredible, wealth of knowledge from diverse disciplines. Welding, woodworking, if you can do it with tools it's represented.

The shop got the pistons in... Going to get them to me so I can do the final fit....
They also pulled the heads apart and want the seats cut and face the valves...
Kinda wondering what heads are in use with the 1200cc pistons..
If they are the 883 heads, wondering if the chamber was opened up or reverse dome pistons are used...
Soon will be seeing what is what...

Got another " Boring Job" to do on the 98 FXDWG....
Owner wants to go to a 4-5/8" stroke and keep his jugs in play...
Will be doing a next size up hone-over on them, once the stroker pistons gets to me....

The jugs are on hold for the moment...
Moved on to doing the heads.

These are 883cc Evo Sportster heads..
Will ya look at them little valves...

The jugs seen a bore done on them making them into a 1200 cc
That's 1/2" of meat bored out of each jug..
Now that a common Big Bore was done and going back to the Stock heads of the 883, .... well .... it's a bit like installing 44" Monster Mudder Tires on a VW Bug..

Tell ya what would be icing on the cake with the bore it has now....

If ya was after some pony's.... This would be the way to go with matching pistons.... Buell Thunderstorm heads... The standard size valves in these Bad-Boys are the same size as the 80" Evo Big Twins.....

                        ______________________________________________

The service that the Oem 883 heads are seeing is just a clean up on the stock parts...
Regrind the valves, three angle the seats, the head gasket surface got a little shave job.
Valve stems and guides fell within Harley's ware zone, only new parts that went into the job was valve seals...

                            Well ...

Back to a boring job ...

Awhile back I was working on a set of 80" Shovel jugs for my 52 ...
Wanted to back down the compression in order to make it more user friendly kick starting ...
                            (Getting old sucks !)

Spent a lot of time on the outside looks of em, casting flashing on the first year 80 Shovel jugs was rough as a corncob .. !!

Got em looking pretty good under the powder coating ....

Just now I got around to doing the bores ... They was at STD for 3-1/2" bore of the 80s ...

Was hoping the STD size pistons for 4-3/4" stroke would give me a few thousandths to hone out in order to reach running fit ...

Wasn't so lucky in doing that, once I mic-ed the pistons and set up the dial-bore gauge, they were pretty much at the max limit of wall fit...
Ok ... since I was going to need to go oversize on the pistons, thought I would go ahead and do a bore job on em ....

Sure didn't want to get away from being able to run Std pistons, but do want a nice straight bore ...
So I jumped to with the FWII boring bar ....

Took the bore out .010" over ....

And found a spot that rust ate into that didn't clean up at .010" over ...

                            Soooooooo ...

Going to do .020" over ... Oh .. It would have run at the .010" over, but, with the .020's the bore will be like brand spanking new again ...

That's my story and I'm sticking to it ..!!
(Plus, at .020 over I just went up a full cubic inch) .. Yippie-Ki-Yi-Yaaaaaa !!
Displacement now is at 92.4 CI ...

Just need pistons to hone to final size ....

                            .../// https://youtu.be/KEMWTyO8iXQ \\\...

Just got off the horn with S&S's sales rep (The Lovely Jennifer) she said to box em up and get those critters back up to Viola ...

And off they go to which they came ...
                            (Thanks Jen, you're a Peach)

                              More boring work ...

Took in a tired 88"2007 Twin Cam ...
About 70,000 miles are on the clock ...

Jugs have a world of ware showing in the bores, going to do a "Big Bore" on the Oem jugs and up the cubies to 95 inches ..

The factory jugs have a super thick liner that can handle some meat to be bored out ....
Will be taking the bore out 0.125" more than it is now ..

Heads are in sad shape to ... They too will have new life put back into em ...

Take my 45 and outrun em all ..

Well, how bout dat .. ??

Since this is the 07 year model, it turned out to be the 96 inch motor and not the 88" ...

So ... 103 inch "Big Bore" using the Oem jugs here we come ...
