    Default 8mm BDL beltdrive problems.

    Hello guys,

I bought a 8mm BDL beltdrive kit last year on a swapmeet. I installed it on the bike few days ago and didn't fit with 142t belt. The stock (132t) belt fits perfectly but the 142t "jumps over" the splines. At the start it fits on the pulley, but at the end it jumps... And yes its a 8mm belt to. I have tested 2 different BDL belts and none of the fits, just the stock 132t. What could be the problem?

Friend of mine have the exact same problems with his beltdrive...

    Thanks
    Wille

Can't see your picture, no idea if this is a 1.5" wide belt or a 4", on a Knucklehead or Twin cam, etc...

In any case, the 142T peaked my interest enough to go look into it since that seemed long to me but I suppose that's just because most of my experience is with older 4 spd setups.

So the 142T seems to only be offered in 2" wide. I'll presume thats the belt in question. I see there's also a 2" wide 132T. Looking at the part numbers for each and doing a search on BDL's website shows that the 142T x 2" only comes in an open belt kit made for Shovelheads. The 132T x 2" only comes in a kit made for Evo's.

So the only thing still missing here is... what bike/trans is it on?

Not sure of your set up, but for me, beware buying used open belt setups: On used open drives, they tend to have worn pullies due to sand, grit etc wearing the teeth. Might be worth checking your pullies: Any round wear on the teeth will cause a good belt to slip. Remember, your belt should be adjusted to where you can twist it almost 40 degrees in the middle, so any wear in the teeth makes it even worse for slipping

    Sorry for bad information guys!

Its a -71 ironhead with cut off tranny, using a 4speed trans on it now. The beltdrive is new and its 1.5" wide. Why I dont go with the 132 is becuse I couldn't get the tranny any closer to the engine that it is now.

Can you see the picture now?

It shouldn't mather if its a cutted ironhead or a shovel, the belt drive is still made for a big twin... No one else had this problem with a longer belt?

Ah, OK... I understand what you're saying now. There was a little language barrier I think with your description (no worries).

So the 142T 8mm belt does this (pic below) and the 132T 8mm does not? And you tried another 142T? Are all belts (including 132T) from BDL?

Haha, sorry for my bad english

Excactly, I've 3 belts. Stock that fits then 2 142t, none of them 2 fits and both are from bdl I think or if the other one was another fabrication. The funny thing is that friend of mine like i wrote above has the same problem...

Is there any belts close to 8mm? Some " belts? But im 99.9% that my beltdrive is 8mm.
