    New to HD's; fork question

I have a '96 Sportster and I am new to HD's. The previous owner said that the front forks are off of a Nightster. The rear shocks are Burly Brand stiletto (he said the 15" ones) that raise the rear. I'm wanting to lower the bike and I want to run the Burly Slammer shocks in the rear (which is no problem) but, Burly doesn't have a lowering kit for the front fork for the Nightster models. I want the bike to set level like it is now, just about 2" lower all the way around.

So: 1) how do I know if my front forks are off of a Nightster and 2) how do I get them 2" lower?

    Thanks,

    ~QC

I'm wanting it to sit more like this (but without the fat front tire):

What I did when I installed my 11" progressives (I think the Burly's are 10") was to lower the forks through the trees until bike was level, about a 1/4" when you lower the rear end the front will sag some, it did not effect the handling at all.

Thanks. So how do I know if that is a Nightster front end vs standard front? Is there a measurement or marking?

I don't think there is a dimes difference between a nightster and a standard other than the nightster came with fork gatters, I don't see gatters on your'n.

the nightster and the iron models came with the lowest factory front forks... at least for sportys.

I see that Burly's website says not to use it on XL1200N models. I'd assume that's because they are already the lowest forks from Harley. But I'd contact Burly and see what they say.

If you had a mind to add a bit more rake are these kits...

                  Above is 3 degrees
Kit includes a chrome cup set, bearing set, dust shields, and a longer fork stem and adapter.
The longer fork stem and adapter fits the neck but will not accept stock fork stem lock. This has a built in external fork stop tab. Raked neck bearing and race kits will require longer fork tubes to be installed on all applications. There is a second spacer machined in cup. For show use only.

Chrome 5° raked fork neck cup kit includes longer stem and stop plate.
Rake requires long fork tubes. Neck lock cannot be retained.

                  7 degree ^^
Take my 45 and outrun em all ..
