I like the look of them but it's not something I want to do.

Some minor updates...
Finished buttoning up the '61 trans. Scored a chromed early "pig snout" side cover for it. Chrome is in really good condition and a little patina for that slightly worn look. Modified the kick pedal so the round bits don't spin freely. Didn't want any extra help rolling an ankle off it.
Started working on the plans for the springer trees. Should start slicing and poking steel plate this weekend. I made some crude trees out of wood to check some clearances and visualize a few things. Taped some risers and some hacked up pieces of handlebars on there for a rough visual while I was at it.
I mentioned a few months back I was planning to do some radically stupid shit with the pipes (pretty much my reasoning for wanting to build on this frame) and if you were wondering about that, here's a pic of the overall concept. Been holding this up to the frame for a few months but now that I've got the wheel on there I had to snap a pic. Pretty stoked on it...

Here's a couple new pics I haven't posted...
Started working on springer parts. Hand cut on a bandsaw. Haven't done final sanding.
Here's to never being able to run a 3" tire...
Checking clearances. Frame is low in the front for this pic. Will have a tad more rake.
Just being unproductive and playing dress up...

Nice!
That's a sweet looking tiny Unity (I assume its a Unity?), what model is that? Looks great with the ~3" leg spacing.
Keep the pics up, really enjoying watching this build. And i go through the Psycho78 thread all the time picking up bits of inspiration all the time still...Comment

Thanks! Not a Unity. It's off a 60's Ferrari 250GT. Been hanging onto it forever to use on a narrow springer. Dreams finally come true.
Hard to tell in the pic but the center of the glass has a unique rib. Pics don't do it justice but the price does.Comment

also, cutting the radii (radiuses?) on the springer clamps, did you do that on the bandsaw? Did it just take lots of little "three-point-turn" cuts (cut, then backoff, then cut in at a greater angle, backoff...etc), then blending on a bench sander?Comment

Cut the straight parts on the bandsaw within 1/16" or less. Then chopped the corners off the radius at 2 or 3 places to get a good portion of it. After that I sanded the straight sections to size and the the radii (which varied from 1/16-1/4" in spots but it sanded quickly with an 80 grit disc).
On the light, I actually meant there is a vertical rib down the center of the glass. It progressively gets more pronounced as it gets towards the lower edge of the lens. Here's a couple pics...

Nice, that light will go perfect with all the swoops and style already going on with the build. Thanks again for sharing.Comment
