Default 'run in' with an actual MC rider - just wierd...

Couple weeks ago I took a road trip to IN to visit some fellow builders from another site (fun time, got to hoon a 500cc shift cart around a subdisvision among other things). One of the odder incidents was near the end of my ride there, I'm kinda gassed out and doing 70-75 in the left lane of a mostly empty US 20, guy on a (to me stock looking) big twin with a 'git bak' whip rolls past me on the left in my lane, understandably a bit startling but whatever, not like I'm gonna crash from a close pass. Dudes got a 'Devils Diciples INDIANA' jacket on, and slows to about 85 a few lengths in front of me... so hey, cool, I have an escort to suck up any speed shots coming my way (a few of which had nailed me already, adding a lot to the trips cost).

So I go like this for maybe 5 minutes, then I pull up next to the guy to check out the bike. Like I said, very clean, pretty stock looking. I do a bit of a nod, no response. My exit is coming up in two miles, so whatever, I light it off and roll up to about 140 thinking he might race... and never see him again.

Only thing I can think was maybe he was bugged by the big patch on the back of my (hi viz mesh) jacket? Seems odd for an MC member to mistake "Rat Fink" for colors, but maybe his vision was blurred from the wind...
Or maybe was the general looks of my 30 year old FJ1100 sport tourer?

Anybody have / do / explain such an encounter?

Said sup to a "vato" on a homie Harley and he just stared. Dude looked like an idiot wearing a full face mask in 80+ degree weather, but whatever's he looked hardcore at least!! Wasn't flying colors, but I'm pretty who he was with, or at least trying to act like.

Yesterday, I almost had a "Run In" with a local MC Member. I was on my way home from work, blasting down 1-35. My work trucks a piece of shit, and does good to hit 70. I had just passed a semi who was in the center lane, this put me in the left lane, as I started to change back to the center lane(because my trucks a piece of shit and started loosing power), I noticed a bike splitting lanes between the semis cab & my right rear quarter(aka BLIND SPOT). I'm betting that MC member was more than thankful that; a:I saw his stupid fuckin ass, and b:I decided to wait a moment before switching lanes.
...Patches don't make you invincible,...Be careful out thar!

In the past,(on multiple occasions) I've met (in passing) the president of one of the most prominent black MCs in my state. He's a very mellow dude, and always pleasant to chat with.

Passing someone in the same lane is a DICK move, especially when there is other lanes to get around. A club member considers all other riders regular "citizens" and will never ride behind someone else or a club of less stature.

Haha how the fuck is that worded in the handbook? Like what's the parameters? Is a rider at 500' away acceptable but at 499' in front they must speed up and pass any regular citizen? And what's the violation charge? Failure to pass regular citizen while traveling parallel on the same road? Lol dudes are funny.

That has always seemed really strange to me, it's as iff they wake up one day and think "I don't have enough rules in my life"

I only get pissed off at other cyclist if they try to ride two up on me or park right next to me at a light in my lane. I'll sometimes act all wobbly just to make'em back off. Usually it's a crotch jap.

Yeah, it was an obvious dick move and seemed meant as such. The thing about "not riding behind" sounds about right, we were probably just going the same way for a while and he wanted to assert territory, which would have been fine with me if he'd just passed normally, or even just had an interesting looking bike to watch the back of. I wonder how long he tried to chase me down for after revved out of sight and then exited...

I don't mind that if they do it right. Then again, I ride a 'crotch jap' (sorta, if you go back 30+ years on your defintion).

I wrote something, but decided not to post it. It's not my place to speak. BUT, here's my insight:

Basically, if you ever do the club thing, especially if you start hanging out with any kind of "real deal" club, you just start looking at peoples' backs. I don't even do the club thing anymore, but I'm ALWAYS looking at every denim or leather vest I see. It's not just about territory or any of that goofy shit, but safety.

    Does that make sense?

His going around you shit is kind of a club thing, but not always. Like, if you're riding with a club, or a member of a club, and you're not in that club -- you're just a couple buddies going to the bar or whatever -- be a friend and don't make your homie look bad. ride behind him or share the lane. You're both goin' to the same spot, so it's not like it matters haha.

But encountering clubs on the highway really all depends on the club or the rider. Him to cut your lane like that is definitely unnecessary, but it's up to his discretion. He IS a member of a real-deal club, and he can do whatever the fuck he wants. If it makes you uncomfortable, let him know and square it away like that, if it's worth it to you lol.

I just ride like a dick head all the time. Before I got into it, I was a prospect for a regular 3-piece support patch. We went to some other club's party, and on the way home (I was fucking loaded) I was just flying on the dyna. Like, screaming. I would meet the dudes later on down the road, but they actually remembered me from that night. "We saw you coming up on us really fast and we were all like 'Hmmmm...' so we slowed down to see who you were, but you literally flew by us so fast we couldn't tell what your rockers said." Lol. If I'm flying by you, you probably had nothing to do with it. I'm just an ass hole.

MC dudes have weird rules or whatever.

I'm friends with an old timer. Former HA, former Chapter Pres of the (Redacted large 1% club), current member of the (Redacted large 1% club)...

He rides behind me if I'm the one that knows where we're going.

So I guess they don't have to be in front... But he did say that he's sick of club drama. Young guys ruin the fun of it and stuff...

He also said how weird club "rules" are. He told me if the club didn't want him to hang out with me any more, he'd have to stop riding around with me.

I personally hate rules and being told what to do so that sounds mega unappealing to me.

Be here at 8am. Sometimes I would get lucky because I had a good relationship with people over me and I was a president but most of the time you didn't know where you were going or when you were coming home lol yup
