Default Sportster: Got T-Boned making a left turn...need to fix bike

    Hi,

I was making a left turn from the innermost lane of a doublere left turn lane and we were both stopped at a red light.
Young girl yanked the wheel too hard and cut the turn too soon and t-boned me.
Luckily we were only going 15MPH
Bad thing is I was riding my friend's Sporty back from the shop because her hand had pins in it from surgery.

Now, I need to make her bike "right".
Seems like all I have to do is straighten the part of the frame that holds the rear brake pedal and I should be golden
Oh and polish her slash cut pipes with some 0000 steel wool because there is a lil marring there

    What say yall?

I'd say if it was the cager's fault you should have gotten the popo involved so the driver could pay for the damage. Otherwise, the bike owner shouldn't notice the cracked paint when you straighten the peg mount or the chipped aluminum cam cover or the damaged chrome pipes that 0000 steel wool won't fix or the other damage that you haven't found yet and hope she won't notice.

My friend was trailing me to her house and witnessed the entire thing go down
Barney made a report but ruled it inconclusive (neither one of us is at fault)
friend's deductible is $500 so makes no sense for me to file a claim
i'll just crowbar it out and hit it with some POR-15

Is your friend OK with you "crowbarring it out"? sounds cheesy to me. just find that part on e-bay and do it right.

why not replace the parts instead of crowbarring them?
they aren't that expensive and they bolt on..

Are all your brain cells functioning? seems to me there might've been a little damage in that department......hard to believe a bent mount was the extent of the damage.

looks like you got lucky, but yes get new peg mount the rest can be dressed with a file and emory cloth, then polished.far as the steel wool, dont! use a buffing wheel and some chrome polish.if youre lucky she might jerk you off when the pins come out

that's not a bolt on part.
the "holder part" is actually a piece of the underframe

yes, that is all that happened to he bike seeing that we MAY have been doing 15MPH
    10MPH is more like it
we were pulling off from a stop light at a dead stop
weird but that's all that happened
the bike never got laid down
it just stuck to the side of the Kia for about 20 feet
with me riding it the entire time

I've had two people pull out in front of me in 2 consecutive weeks. Had to powerslide sideways and hockey check the sides of their cars.

Bike had no damage first run in, second time I had to get a new set of cables and rebuild the forks.

    Sporties are pretty tough

friend's deductible is $500 so makes no sense for me to file a claim
    Example:
500 for the paint job, more for removing and replacing whatever is in the way of repaint, if the insurance company doesn't cover bent frame straightening (due to liability some do not) then it's potentially an insurance total which is also potentially a customer buyback or settlement for slightly LESS than a total reimbursement so as to avoid having to change the title to Salvage.

We pay for insurance to return our machines to like kind and quality after damage. Insisting on due reimbursement less some appropriate amount is a net saving to the insurance company. How we fix our property is of course up do us. All legal and no fraud or anything even close.

I picked the bike up from the Harley dealership where it was in for a accident claim
they painted it and made it all pretty and stuff
her hand was fuct so she couldn't ride it home for over a month
they finally said come pick it up or we will start charging you storage fees
that's when she called me and i agreed to ride it home for her

    then BOOM, i get t-boned
    no paint damage
only damage is what you see in the pics and like two scuffs on the pipes that actually might not be there anymore
but they looked like she drew a two inch scribble with a white wax candle on them

    You guys are right
    I am wrong
The piece is actually held on by two big allen bolts as we can see in the picture
    in that case
i will just order all new parts and do a quick swap out

And the learning begins. It didn't take me long to figure out who on here is a genius, and who just thinks they are. It's like living in a colony of greybeards......
