Alright he's the breakdown:
'01 883
Aftermarket Clutch (not sure what brand, PO installed)
17k on the clock
Recent Maintenance:
Replaced rear tire, torqued to 65 ft/lbs, didn't touch adjusters or the belt pulley
Alright so the problem started up yesterday on my 35 min commute to work (bike is a DD). Noticed a whine/whistle sound that I couldn't pin point, got slightly louder the longer I rode, most noticeable in 1-3 at higher rpms.
Got slightly worse/more noticeable today on the way to work. Did some on the fly troubleshooting, found out the following:
-Sounds like a whine/whistle/possibly minor grinding, leads me to think it's a bearing
- Noise is most prevalent at higher rpms
- Noise follows rpms, not actual speed of m/c
- Noise occurs with clutch in or out, again completely rpm based
- Noise occurs in all 5 gears and neutral
- Does not occur when coasting with clutch lever in, will pop up with clutch level out and engine braking (again, follows rpms)
- Does not occur when coasting with the bike shut off and in neutral
- Does not exhibit power loss
- Does not shift hard, although occasionally (once or twice on a 35 min commute) when taking off from a stop after shifting to 1st from N it will jump as though the gear was not fully engaged
Any ideas on where to start with this? I am going to pick up some oil on the way home to service the primary, I'm thinking the oil might just be low somehow, I will check for metal shavings and report back. This is going to be my first time opening up a primary if I have to, any tips/tricks/what to look for?
Thanks for the help guys.
