    SHREDDED primary BELT

I recently installed a 25tooth main trans sprocket on my 57 panhead. So here is the problem. After about 30 miles I stripped all the teeth clean off my primary belt. I know this could be a result of the primary not being aligned properly. I did NOT move the trans while installing the sprocket, but I did notice when I initially pulled the clutch hub I needed to use a puller but after reinstalling the hub, it never seemed to press completely on over the new woodruff key. I could easily remove the hub when I removed the clutch hub nut.

I am not completely savvy on how to navigate these forums so if there is a thread out there that addresses this issue please point me in that direction.

I have a 1 1/2" belt and a 3 finger clutch hub. When all the clutch plates are removed and I turn the hub there is quite a bit of slop in the bearings. I cleaned and inspected them and they all seemed to be in good condition (no flat spots).

what is the best way to check for belt alignment?

    Aaron

    thank you in advance!!

What kind of puller did you use? Did you replace the key with a new one? Can you possibly show us some pix?

I used a clutch hub puller from jpcycles. I replaced the key with a brand new one. What would you like pictures of? its all apart right now.

Its happened to me. Take a very close and critical look at your front pulley. If its worn, very common and it doesnt take much, it will turn and strip your belt. Also, you should be able to twist your belt a 1/4 turn easy, other wise its too tight, getting the same result

Given the data that you have provided .....
            My thoughts are.....

By going to that tall sprocket throws alot more load on the motor and powertrain...
Thinking that you have (Opps, HAD) an old 14mm polyester belt that has seen alot of years go by, just might have started singing that Bob Dylan song "Ain't going to work on Maggie's farm NO MO"

            ..... https://youtu.be/O29WvCcp7zY .....

If you can find a belt for that unit in a Kevlar poly-chain, it is virtually indestructible ....
