inverted forks

i want to run some inverted forks on my xl350 im not at all worried about the fabrication part. but would forks off a dirt bike work? i know they will be way tall but can they be lowered? or just hold out for something off a street bike? the dirtbike stuff is cheaper and easyer to get localy.

a dirt bike front end would work, you just need to figure out bearing sizes and things
