    85 Softail

I just picked this bike up for $3400. One of the PO's cut the fender struts off and installed the sissy bar. He had installed a solo seat. Second PO installed the stock seat which resulted in a dent in the fender.

So there is no restoring the struts right? Can I add strut covers and a fender as long as it is never sat upon?

I would actually like to keep the fender sissy bar set up but a Le Pera solo seat that also came with it puts me out of reach for the forward controls with my 29" inseam. I would switch to a spring suspended seat but don't like how they expose the entrails of the bike. Anybody have a remedy for that?

Lastly, I hate the tank and it is gone as soon as it warms up enough to spend some time out there. Are there any king/peanut tanks that can be mounted without a lot of modification?

'84 and '85 had bolt on struts. See if the holes are still in the frame.

No the pic is deceiving. The bars are 18" apes.

You can mount a paughtco mustang with the holes 17-1/2 on center. they line up with the existing holes on the flat-side tank mounts. And the tunnel is wide enough to cover the stock frame brackets

My frame is a 1985 FXWG but it has the same mounts as the softail for flatside tanks
