the 80s weren't the 60s. a lot changed in those 20 years. for one thing you guys invented mullets and big hair. imo the 80s was the beginning of the end.

Amen jethro, Today if you are a boy masculinity is a disorder and if you are a man it is a criminal offense. I home schooled both of my sons rather than turn them over to the not so tender mercies of a gynocentric government non-education regime. It was worth it to not wind up with grown fagtarded hipster for sons.

My opinion, the 70's. That is when all music was being played and being played well. Metal, Rock(which is now classic rock), funk, blues, everything we being played damn good. bad ass cars in the early part of the decade. Choppers were badass... I mean shit need I say more. Not gonna lie I wish I could have been in my twenties in the 70's life would have been dope as fuck.

I turned 20 in 1979 and it wasn't bad, but today crushes the 1970s utterly in chobber and motorcycle terms. Music was just about go disco and factory rock had begun. Yeah, there were some great concerts but concerts don't make an era unless you are a musician or a roadie. No Youtube videos to download and while the Grateful Dead were cool with taping their shows other bootlegs were rare.

No contest at all. The 2000s give the '70s a fatal kerbie and shits on its bloody corpse.

There are far more and far better executed choppers today. Parts are much more available and the level of equipment in home and professional shops today is superior. Most parts are cheaper now in constant dollars.

Today we aren't stuck waiting for the local dealer to order our parts when he gets up a minimum order. We don't have to figure out from a dead tree catalog if shit will work, and we can download and zoom pics of anything we are interested in. We can get immediate feedback on quality from other folks who bought a component.

In the 1970s communication was horrible. Today if someone in Europe builds a cool bike or wants to make a limited run of parts they can let the world know. Back then all info had to percolate through dead tree media and most of it didn't. People today forget that in ancient times the only communication outside local areas was magazines and they are "PUSH" content, not interactive.

Musically we remember the good shit, but there was always good shit. The majority of the content in any era isn't good shit and we were stuck with expensive vinyl records/tapes/reel-to-reel.

The 1970s also had the OPEC oil embargo and a major recession. It gutted many US industries. Detroit was trying to commit suicide by selling bloatmobiles and the auto industry took serious damage. Of course this was the era of emissions engines and primitive technology gutted the musclecars and everything else. There were some cool body styles but nothing ran, steered or stopped like modern vehicles and todays magnificent automotive aftermarket has far more systems (not just parts) available to make old cars run as well as they look.

Fuck the rose-colored glasses. I'm ancient enough I should be all googly-eye stoopid about muh halcyon youth. I had it good and still don't find that era better.

    Well said, Farmall.

Technology has made life so much better. Everyone always likes to look back on the good old days.

Meanwhile, we're developing medical technology to extend life, grant eyesight to the blind, robotic limps for vets that articulate on brain commands...

I fully credit my ability to build Harley and Triumph engines to the internet. There's some natural inclination there as well as having friends to get advice from, but the internet is an amazing resource.

If I'm nostalgic for anything, it's the 90's. Skateboarding youth with no responsibility. The Clinton years were prosperous for our country. News channels weren't locked into this immature partisan battle they are now(or it wasn't as obvious). I worked at Disneyland through Highschool and got my pick of females due to the strong gay work force...

    Fuck the 60's! 90's PWNED!

The saying that if you remember the 60s you weren't really there is quite true! And the 70s & 80s were just a painful detox.

I've seen pictures where cops take a ruler to your hot rod's front bumper... Cops aren't the greatest today, but I feel like they have reduced their motorcycle and hot rod hassling.
Had both happen, in the 70's. Freedom died with the passing of the NFA in 1934.

The drugs in the 70's and 80's were good and abundant here in SoCal. By the late 80's crank and crystal meth had turned stoners into hardcore junkies and ruined all the fun. Employers began to believe drug testing was a necessay component of building a workforce thereby costing a lot of potheads a happy life. I remember lots of good, but just as much bad from each decade of my life. All in all each gets better IMHO.
