Can I mount fender strut here???

I want to run a small sissy bar off my swing arm. Maybe just a simple fender strut.


Can I drill a hole here (see pic) and bolt the bar here ... or do I I need to weld on separate mounting tabs?

Is this area strong enough/thick enough?

First question is are you mounting the fender to the swingarm as well ?

Yes. Fender to the swing arm.


What thickness steel should I use for the tab. What hole size for the bolt? (i know I can by tabs but I have a lot of scrap steel laying around)

Drill it, and tap for what ever size bung you may choose to use to weld the strut to if using round.

Drill and tap it. Passenge fender, 3/8 grade 8. Just a fender 5/16.

Wont ever run a passenger. Just a simple fender support.

So it sounds like I CAN just drill a hole and put a bolt through it... instead of welding a separate tab.
