    71' Shov

After cutting my teeth on an ironhead build a few years ago I bought a FLH in hopes of chopping it.

got a new sportster a year ago. hooked on bikes now. been jonesing for a project bike. just got one. i barely know anything, other than being handy and not being retarded. got some friends that do know whats up and the chopcult! hope to keep this thread going as i learn, find parts and create. sorry for the shitty first pics. i

Got sidetracked and ran it stockish for a couple years. Starting thinking about making a chopper a few months back. Went to BF6 and got the bug to make it happen asap, so when I got home I threw it on a table and got started. Hardtail and 45' UL springer is the plan so far. 18" and 21" high shoulder alum wheels. Rear disc. Everything else is TBD.
    Enjoy.....more to come.

Look forward to following this one.

I'm looking at a '70 FLH this weekend. Anything in particular you've found to look out for since owning your '71?

i had asked cause there really is no difference on a big twin inline springer wether its off a UL or an OHV for that year. the neck stem is 1". a 45" sidevalve is a different front end altogether.

black back in the day we would strip them down leave stock front end and front rear fender and mount a solo seat on pogo stick with pillion pad on fender and run apes. it was the stripped down FL as it was called, a lot of guys would add the round covers on top of the shocks and some would cut the front tubes 1 to 2 " and use shorter shocks in the back
real tuff looking 70's period correct looking bike if u go tat way
and that's exactly what I would do aside from a s s thunderjet and shaving the barrels 60 th until rebuild time

Got my frame and front end!

Springer Stem is too short as expected. I have the conversion kit but before I start tearing out the old neck cups I don't seem to see how these give the stem more length. They look to be the same cups really. Anybody got any experience?
