Default Running Rich - Which jet to change?

So the bike runs fine, and it moves well throughout the rpm range, but I feel like its running too rich. It smells really rich when I'm sitting there at red lights, I get shitty gas mileage, and I've noticed that one of my tail pipes is really black / sooty and even a little wet (too much gas?). Anyway, I pulled the plugs and they are super black, but not wet.

Should I be changing the main jet, intermediate jet, or both?

What bike ? Carb ? Pipes ? All matter
If it's a super e the main jet dosent kick in till around 55, intermed jet may be to blame or air bleed size

It's a '76 shovel with a Super E on it. Here's a pic of the pipes I'm running on them.

I guess I'll switch out the intermediate jet and see how things go.

Accel pump up too high? My experience with E's is that when the jets are off, the bike will really run like shit or way out of the recomended tuning range. Did u tune it from the recomended base setting?

If you don't have the SS instructions that came with the carb Go the their web site and check out the procedure it tells all you need to dial that carb in. read and follow their tuning directions.

If u change intermed. jets and get a flat spot before main jet kicks in, look into doing the air bleed mod many are doing. Open the hole up a little causes main jet to come on later to stop the stumble between the 2jets. The new super e now has a changeable air bleed jet.
