make sure u have an insulator block on that cab, it will cause the carb to get hot and that may also be your problem

Most likely the reason is the float needle & seat ..
The "B" carbs had a few diff. designed needles over the years ... The early carbs ran a needle that didn't have the rubber tip on the sealing area of the needle and were problematic .... That may be why yo're seeing fuel from the bleed port ...

If I was you I would be getting a new float and the later needle & seat ....

Set everything up per S&S instructions and remember never to overtighten the delicate idle mixture screw because there's no practical way to unfuck the carb body if you do. Fingertips only!

    https://www.sscycle.com/docs/default...4.pdf?sfvrsn=4

I usually leak check carbs off the bike before installation since it's so convenient. A long hose off the gas tank gets it don't if you don't have a lawnmower or other dummy tank.

When I buy a carb kit to install I buy a spare since they don't get cheaper and will get used. Alternate option, measure kit O-rings before install and run scan or photocopy your bowl gasket which are easy to cut from standard gray material (most auto stores). Before you install any O-rings you can measure OD, ID and thickness then buy a bag of Viton or Buna rings for dirt cheap online (Ebay is excellent). I vaseline the gasket so it doesn't stick if I have to drop a float bowl at the roadside.

If you haven't replaced your intake manifold seals already I do that when I pull a carb. Ensure you have an effective carb brace because intake manifolds (Ram Jett on Evo excepted) are not designed to support carbs. It's entertaining for spectators when a backfire blows one off though.
