Which multi tool do you guys carry?
I'm in the market for a new multi tool to keep in my tool bag. So which do you guys carry(model # if possible) and why?

Gerbers are nice cause the have the fast deploying pliers, but i also carry the titanium leatherman. I like them both and they both will save your ass.

Ka-Bar 5" tanto tip. It's a blade, a pick, a pry bar, a hammer, a screw driver, a punch,a wire stripper, a scraper etc...

Victorinox SwissTool. The model I have isn't available anymore but all of them seem to be pretty stout.

Leatherman skeletool CX in my pocket or on belt loop cause it's light, has carbon fibre and a bottle opener.
and a Gerber suspension in my pack cause it has a variety of tools and they lock when open.

Leatherman crunch, because every hack job starts with a pair of vice grips lol. I like it, but the vice grips are kinda difficult to keep together when you take them off of a bolt or nut. I'd still buy them again, I use them everyday.

This one, http://www.gerbergear.com/Industrial/Tools/MP800_48239 has bailed me out more times than I'd like to admit.
Or this one http://www.gerbergear.com/Tactical/Tools/MP600_07520 I was issued by the Air Force will do in a pinch.
Can't go wrong with a Leatherman either, they're solid as fuck.

they don't make it anymore, but a shrade/vicegrip combo called the toolbox. it has fewer tools than any other one i've had, but it's been my favorite of any of them. i look for a spare on ebay sometimes, but they go for crazy prices. i wish they'd start making them again. when i misplace it i'm like gollum looking for the ring.

i think i read shrade went out of business, but at the prices they go for you'd think vice grip would get with somebody and re-release them.Last edited by Philphine; 04-03-2014 at 10:14 AM.

Leatherman Wave. Funny thing is you don't realize how useful those multi-tools are til you forget it at home.

Me and my good friend both carry Gerber's with the fast pliers. It has saved my ass many many times and I use it daily. Its very strong and it isn't all riveted together so you can actually uncrew it for cleaning or even making your own tools. Which I plan to add a plug tapper and a feeler for my points .

I've been carrying my leatherperson for 20 years or so...it doesn't have the multi-purpose qualities of the Gerbers and the like but it has served me well all these years..

I have the same one....just be careful, because if the pliers slip off whatever you're gripping, you're gonna need a whole bottle of booze to dull the pain from getting your hand pinched

Another vote for the Gerber, I have 2 and I actually prefer my old one without the "lock". When the spring in the lock gets tired tools which aren't in use can deploy under their own weight. My favorite example was when I was using the pliers and the knife punched thru the side of my finger. The Gerber without the lock never does that.
