Grimey from Striped Down Cycles in Illinois did it and ran an open belt 4 speed for the smoke out chop off a few years back. it was light blue flake.

Dont waste your time or money on it,
for the amount of time and money you can just use that to buy a big twin drivetrain
If you really want to do it though
remove your primary cover
remove the trans cluster from the cases.
Take a good measurement and cut right where the trans opening on the ironhead motor starts.
From there you can start to shape down the cases and start to make filler pieces that need to be welded in place,
its also a good idea to make a fixture to hold the cases from warping while being welded.
If you have never welded oem cases before I would suggest practicing on the scrap piece you just cut out as it requires a certain "touch" to be done properly.
After your done filling and shaping and redrilling the cases for a rear motor mount, set a big twin trans behind it and start to line up your drivetrain properly

Not as cool to look at but I'd probably just machine the 4-speed cases to accept an undercut 5 speed KZ1000 transmission. That would make for a nice cruising bike at speed with the right sprocket selection.
