Default 2001 Cafe Sportster Build - Burly Brand Tail Section

    Hello,

I just recently bought my first Harley and chose a 2001 Sportster upgraded with 1200 jugs and pistons (883 Heads). It has less than 8,000 mi and was within my budget for under $3,500. This gave me enough to set out for the parts I needed to transform this stocker into a Cafe Inspired Sportster.

After seeing what Burly Brand has been doing lately with Sportsters, I was really excited to see they offer a Cafe Tail Section, 15" shocks and Clubman Bars. Almost everything I needed to get the bike dialed.

In this thread I will be going through step by step via Pictures and Video. Feel free to ask any questions!

Get those Stiletto shocks, they are easily and by far the best upgrade I've made to my Sporty!

Called up the guys over at Burly Brand and ordered their Fully Covered Cafe Tail Section, Chrome Clubmans and those 15'' Stiletto Shocks. stoked on the pricing! I scored a fork brace and speedo relocate on the online... Ordered A New set of Kung Fu Grips from Biltwell, and some 1'' risers from Todd Cycle. and a good friend donated his old Chainsikle rear sets to me! Now the building shall commence.

First things first put the bike in the shade somewhere and put it on the stand.
Then, get to pulling the seat n rear fender off. It comes apart fairly easy.

I was having so much fun i forgot to take a shot of bare frame rails, but once seat and fender are removed there will be these pesky frame rails, we are building a cafe so everything goes. unbolt your rear shocks n swing them out the way, get your angle grinder or cut off wheel and have at it.

Most will wanna cut right behind the eyelets where the rear shocks bolt on to give a smooth clean line. i chose to leave a little in hopes of devising a hoop to fit the burly tail section so i can ride 2 up... just my crazy idea not recommend or endorsed by Burly Brand!!! Once you are done making the sparks fly... smooth out your new frame rail nubs to your taste, and paint. i found that gloss black krylon matched the stock black frame perfectly... Then install your sexy stiletto shocks.

I like where it's going. It looks strange though, with the stock, goofy front end and the clean new rear end.

I totally dig the idea of a cafe sportster, but for me it's got to have the look of a Manx/Triton...I don't think you'd HAVE to go with a featherbed frame, but there is just something about the the lines of those bikes that fire me up.

Have you seen this shit? That would be my goal for ironhead cafe...

Woah, there is some trick stuff on that scoot. Out of reach for the average home builder, but very cool in deed.

This is what the connecter for each side of my hand control wiring looked like. I Disconnected these bad boys and took em apart, cause the new Burly Clubmans are drilled for internal wiring... I just pulled the wires out of this connecter and slip them thru the bars then put them back in. then they run internally to the center of the bar and disappear in the top tree. i was stoked! if you break one of the plastic covers dont stress dealer has them for a buck or 2.
