Default Tech: Beer Bottle Brake Reservoir

Alright. i'll follow Linkbelts lead to bring back CC to a site not based on arguments and bullshit, and about chopping up motorcycles. This is a bit more experienced tech and requires a lathe. If you dont have or have access to a lathe, i highly suggest you get on craigslist and purchase one. amazing tool to have in the garage and by far the most badass thing you will ever own.
There was a thread a while ago using tubing on the nissin master cylinder- found here
    http://www.chopcult.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1285
I believe this one is the same size and everything as the front brake lever, just the remote rear. Mine came stock on a 2005 Buell XB.

So like any project, heres step 1
need a clear bottle of some sort.

So the whole idea of this started with the lowbrow brake reservoir, which is real nice, but real expensive, and i wasnt real hot on the 1/4'' bolts on both sides of the glass. And while drinking/ working on the bike had an idea, so I drew it up in auto CAD, only the best

found this thing at sears. didn't work very well and about half way through cutting the neck off, the neck snapped off, but was a pretty clean break and was usable. The shoulder bolt is 1/2'' with 3/8 threads. it will hold everything together and be the passageway for brake fluid

Wrap the little piece of glass in some masking tape and put it in the lathe carefully. Just want to get the bottom smooth. Size is up to you. you can cut the shoulder bolt to length to fit whatever. end up with something like this

now for the bottom. Started with some 1.5'' 6061 aluminum and made up a grove for the glass to sit in. The hole will be tapped for 3/8'' 16 to screw in the shoulder bolt

have to make the very bottom the same dimensions as the stock piece for the nissin MC. the slot directly below where the glass sits is for the snap ring that holds it all in the MC

Heres what happens with the shoulder bolt. From the bottom up its needs drilled out, with a hole directly above the threads. that's where the brake fluid will flow to the MC. Then the top of the bolt need cut off. drilled and tapped to 1/4 20 bolt that will hold the cap on. This is also where you need to measure for the overall length of the bolt. needs to be roughly 1/16'' longer than the glass piece you have. The 1/16th is made up once the cap is on the bottle

here it is finished up. i put a small ring of jb weld at the bottom of the glass to keep it sealed while filling it up. once the top bolt is on though it would hold itself sealed if you used an o ring, would just have to hold the piece down while you fill it and get the bolt in.

And on the bike and filled up

Since the whole thing is sitting/ sealed against an o ring, its slightly "rubber mounted" and does have some give to it. Won't have the bike running for a few weeks yet to report if theres any problems.. thats it i guess.

That is pretty badass. What a cool thing to do to a bike. How in the hell did you come up with that?
