    1969 ironhead clutch problem

So my clutch wasn't engaging anymore and I replaced the cable.

Installing the new cable, I was unable to get it taught.
I must be missing a step in the process on the bottom piece of the assembly (under the kicker and sprocket cover). I know it is the proper cable

Does anyone know how to solve this?

    thanks

Did you adjust the clutch at the cable and at the case?

yeah u adjusted it at the case first to the manual specs. then I adjusted the lever. I'm getting tension now and it's moving like it should but the clutch still won't engage.

Do you still have normal spring tension when pulling the clutch lever? may be as simple as worn and slipping clutch plates. Also, any signs of slipping before you replaced the clutch cable?

yeah there is normal spring tension and good movement in the worm gear. The clutch was working but not too well before the new cable. I figured it was the old cable since it was in rough shape. the pushrod assembly looks good and intact. but no engagement...

It does seem like I am missing a spring inside the kicker cover that attaches from the case to the worm gear

I opened the clutch up and inspected the plates. Soaked in oil. The rest of the clutch seems fine. the o rings and gaskets are in good shape. How could the damn oil be getting in there?

Is it strictly the oil that is making my clutch not function properly? I know this has a "dry clutch"
