Can I take off my tach cable clean off both sides or is that gonna open a hole i don't want open?

You can take it completely off but it will open a hole. You can fabricate or buy a tach drive plug tho

Be careful. If you disconnect the bottom end first, all the RPMs will drain out. A real mess. Actually, on my old Ironhead, I just got a little rubber cap from the Home Depot hardware isle and capped the lower drive unit. Rode it like that for 8 years.

Yeah there are aftermarket threaded plugs available. Search.....
