MY BIKE: 1978 Yamaha XS653

Owner name, location: Josh Scott, Colorado

Bike name if it has one: none

Engine, year and make, model, modifications: Yamaha 1978 XS650, aftermarket carbs & pipes

Frame: Stock motor hoop, custom 4" stretch hardtail, custom neck gussets.

Fork: 2" under DNA Springer

Chassis mods: na

Tire/wheel size and style: 21" front 16" rear HD wheels

Favorite thing about this bike: color, HOK lime gold kandy

Next modification will be: I wanna try my hand at some bars and pipes

I work at G&L Choppers in Colorado Springs, CO. I built this bike in my spare time over the course of 2 years. The entire process was a learning experience for me. I would fabricate a part and then do it over and sometimes do it a third time. Some of the hand made parts I am proud of are the round electric box and caps which are nickel plated, the custom mid controls, linkeages, and pegs, and the right hand jockey shift. I also painted the bike and wired it from scratch. Both were firsts for me. I finished the bike in April 2009 and have since put roughly 4000 trouble free miles on it. This is my sweetheart. I dig the hell out of her!!! Oh, and the model is my wife, Sarah thanks doll!!!

Some final mockup pics:

well, I did name it the "Shop Rat" which is carved into the seat but then I was getting shitbirds telling this that this bike is not a rat bike. . . . NO SHIT! I named it that because it lived in the corner of the shop for 2 yrs!! Plus, I am a shop rat in my own right.
