    Seaweed Flames

Thinking about getting my tank painted on my Sporty... I got sick of the factory clear-coated decals so I just wrapped the sides in gloss black vinyl. Now that I have some downtime with winter I was planning on getting it shot solid black.

I've always dug the "seaweed style" flames... anyone got any pics for reference???

I'd probably just keep it simple, gloss black with a silver or white outlined flame, black center.

    Here's my bike for reference:

Good Idea? Bad Idea? Any thoughts appreciated as always!

I like the first photo-chop pic. The flames look more natural on that tank shape.

I think they are cool. Was actually thinking of doing this myself over the winter. Just pick up some of the 1/8 3m striping tape and go nuts.

I like the flames on the blue-ish-gray tank the most. If you need them done for you, just let me know and I can paint it for ya.

I bought some skinny tape and broke out the spray paint for this. I used the old airbrush for the first time as well. In fact, I bought the airbrush just for this little project.

Do it exactly like the first photo-chop. Exactly like it! People would be so confused. haha

I plan on doing the same on some new tins. My real nice paint set draws too much attention sometimes. Black with white outline flames would be undercover enough but still some rad style.

When done right, flames are KILLER!

Those really aren't sea weed flames. Sea weed flames are early, thinner, hot rod flames. Those look cool, but those are more modern, FYI.

Yes, very nice example. And again, I like the examples everyone pit up, just wanted to clarify terms.

                        crab claws...

most of those tanks look more like "crab claw" flames....definitely different than "seaweed" flames.....that being said,if the execution is good and they're on the right bike/rod flames can look righteous...if not pulled off right, then they can be just terrible...

Just when I felt flames were over done; the simplicity of these examples warms back up that small place in my heart for them gain. They were starting to take on that chromed tribal feel...which is a sad sad thing in my book.

I don't know who made those exact ones but steffan at zombieperformance makes some just like them if he's back in shop. If not there are plenty of others on here who could make them too.
