What to see and/or do in Las Vegas ?

Only been to Vegas once two years ago to get married in front of Elvis himself, Man was he fat sweaty and out of shape, LOL. The wife was 8 months pregnant so we didn't do a whole lot. Were heading back week after next and I'm just looking for Ideas. We are not looking to go crazy parting, more looking for things to do with the family during the day and then hit the town with the wife at night. Looking for the cool local type stuff that gets over looked. Thanks.

See where the Brolodex has been in Vegas, that'll give you plenty of "night life" tips.

Don't know much about day time family stuff, but as for nightlife, if you're looking for bars & music the Double Down Saloon always offers a good time. The Bunkhouse Saloon has recently had a lot of good Punk & Metal shows lately as well. Just check http://lasvegascitylife.com/ (or the actual weekly) when you're here. They have a decent listing of bars, shows, and other shit.

I always find it fun to hit the streets on foot headed out toward Sam Boyd. Also the area between Stratosphere and old Vegas is fun.

+1 on the Double Down. Dino's is a great bar, but gettin' to be full of hipsters lately. Fremont street is always fun. Swing around the corner from Fremont to Hogs 'n Heifers saloon.

Can't help much with the daytime family stuff. My wife and I don't do shit with our kids here other than hang out at BBQ's and parties at friend' houses. This place just isn't set up for family fun. Go figure.

Here's a tip for you though when you go out without the kids at night and you want to get some drinks for free:

Almost every damn bar in town (including many of the big casinos on the strip) have video poker/blackjack/keno/slot machines built right into the bar tops at each seat. Drop a $20 bill into the machine and place a bet. As long as your playing, all of your beers are free. I generally play the $1 hands video blackjack. I can make a $20 bill last a LONG time playing only a dollar a hand every few minutes. You'll still probably have to pay for shots/mixed drinks, but beers are comp'd when you're playing those machines, even if you're playing the 25cent video poker.

In the big strip casinos, I walk up to the bar, drop in a $20, order my beer, then cashout and leave a $1 tip when the bartender gives me my drink. Fuck payin' $9 for a bottle of budweiser.

I've just been one time last April. I went out there for Viva Las Vegas. I had the most fun hanging out on Fremont St. day or night. I don't know a thing about the local scene but Fremont is waaaay better than the strip.

First - where are you staying? Do have a car?

The aquarium at Mandalay Bay or the fright dome at Circus Circus is cool for kids. If you have a car the Dam and the new bridge are worth seeing. Red Rock Canyon is nice and if you are out that way you might as well go up to Mountain Springs Bar, a ton of boring bikes and sometimes some cool ones, but a cool bar.
Like some have have said Fremont street is fun and some cool bars (the Griffin, Insert coin, beauty bar). A good brew pub at Main street station. Frankies Tiki bar is always unique and it is somewhat close to Fremont street. Its sister bar Double Down is great, it's kind of by the hard rock (but you might want to avoid some of the other bars in that area...lol)

ELLIS ISLAND. Cheap beer brewed on site right off the strip. Sometimes they have dollar 16oz beers.

Were going to have a car, and were staying in a time share on the strip. Thanks for all the ideas. wrote a bunch down should be a blast.

+1 on the dam. It is awesome to see. Also, isn't Denver's Choppers outside of Vegas on the way to the dam? May be cool to stop if my memory serves me right....

edit- just looked and Denver's has just moved to Reno. dammit!
