Putting a 1" springer on an Xs650 (no cutting/welding)

you guys may already know this BUT if not here ya go


what you do is get a set of the aftermarket steering bearings for the xs



and then buy a set of 1 inch trailer wheel bearings....or a set of steering bearings for a harley but the wheel bearings are cheeper...

then just use the RACES from the 1 inch bearing set and the actuall bearings from the xs steering set and there ya go....slide your springer on and ride the fuck out of it


i did this on mine and it has worked fine so far (only 2000 on it so far)

there is a small area of the lower bearing that is sticking out below the neck because i couldnt get it to slide all the way up but like i said, no problems so far,

I'm working on that right now with my XS650. I'm pounding the crap out of the upper bearing to fit on the stem. It's half way down and shaving the threads. POS.

Damn, redlined has it backwards, use the 1" bearings on the stem and the xs650 races in the neck. you cant put the smaller bearings on the bigger stem.

Nice... yeah thats backwards. I have the 650 races and the 1" bearings. Fits like a dream

The bottom after market XS bearings fit perfect but yeah, I ended up using the aftermarket XS650 race and the trailer bearing at the top. Fit like a glove.

Bottom of neck needs to be cut down a little or you are not 100% on bearing. Harley race and bearing sit up higher. So make sure you cut some off or springer tree will be getting cut into.There is a thread on another site that gives you set by set on putting one on.

Do u have to trim the jam nut that goes under the top clamp mine acts like its needs cut in half any ideas?

my springer is different in where the top tree slides up and down. If my memory serves me correct... on a DNA the nut does need to be trimmed down

that sounds right to me.. I checked on this a couple of weeks ago. The HD neck is a total of 7.040 long (give or take) and the xs650 is like 7 7/16" long (forget exactly I'm not looking at my notes) so you would have to modify the nut so that you have room to install the cap nut on the very top.. cleanest way is on the lathe to do that but you could just hack it off and clean it up I guess... my reference was taken from the DNA springer..
