I wasn't going to comment on this thread but maybe the MOCO might be listening
They're all chop fodder as far as I'm concerned. A way over-complicated and overpriced piece of machinery built to reflect an over-regulated ond over-taxed industry.
They've pretty much butchered the Sportster line which has always been their best seller because it was a good, affordable, entry level bike. But, they don't have what I would consider a basic 883 for new riders.
The only new HD I would consider would be a Street Glide, (only because they don't offer an FLHT standard). I would leave it bone stock right down to the exhaust, get the extended warranty and run that fucker into the ground munching touring miles.
Personally, I think they need to offer stripped-down base models in every line. I remember back in the mid-90's when they had the FXD Super Glide, FLHT Electra Glide Standard and a basic 883 Sporty. All of them had cast engines, minimal chrome, and very low MSRP's. The dealers couldn't keep them in stock and it made Harley ownership more accessible to a broader range of customers IMO. I used to think of them as a blank canvas for a custom. A lot of folks seemed to like them as is and it fueld the aftermarket and HD for accessories, paint and other upgrades as well.

I totally agree with the lack of base models for the Dyna and Sportster. Obviously the Iron ad Street Bob are the base models for those lines now... but both already have a 'factory custom" appearance.

$28k for a new softail nd you still have to drop thousands on aftermarket. I bought a salvage softail, replaced just about every part, a baker 6 speed and an eventual rebuilt on the motor and I'll still be under $12k.

i dig the green one actually. i like the heavy flake of green. i saw a lime green version of the 72 which I like a lot, but I think that was last years model.
the hate on harley, or any other 'mainstream' bike is kind of baffling to me though. who cares what anyone else rides? ride your own.

Let's not forget that Harley is a luxury brand. Ownership is not a right. It is if you can afford it and they certainly filling their niche market. Also the superglide is still available and you can option up for the 103. It was the best deal in 06 when I bought mine and it came with some extras. Still my favorite bike I have ever owned

I agree with you 100%!! I saved my pennies and bought a new bike because THAT is what I wanted, I could give 2 fucks about what some hipster elitist fucktard has to say. Old bikes are great, owned them before and love to see them running down the road, but there ain't a goddamn thing wrong with buying a new one if you've got the means.

27k is more than I have, but is not a lot for a bike in general. Take that cheapo bike or 2 that you would buy and now replace everything on it except the frame until it's completely new. Not gonna be much difference. HD is not marketing to poor americans

keep in mind it's a CVO bike. They are limited production factory customs, it's basically HD's version of West Coast or OCC... which also command a ridiculous price.

Not bad for a bike "in general?" Are you kidding? Have you been to a dealer recently? I can buy a new BMW K1600GT, fully loaded for less then that. Which is still waaaaayyy too much, "generally" for a motorbike.....but to each his own...
As a side note, I could build 3 XS's for that money, from the ground up, all new parts, and still have change.
