Ignition Module and Coil Upgrade Questions

Hey Guys!

Firstly... I have a 1995 883, Open Air Cleaner,Open Exhaust, Carb Rejetted with 45 slow and 165 Main, NOHK Needle. Ported and Polished Heads.

Went to the walnecks swap today, and on a crazy whim, purchased a SE ignition module for Evolution: 32630-96 and a Harley Screamin' Eagle Performance Coil - Evo 31653-97.

$15 Dollars.

I installed and everything, after calling my dealer. He told me that was a perfect setup.

Bike runs like a dream... Jesus what a change for under 20 bucks.

But now I was looking online, and the Ignition Module says its for 96' and later. The instructions that came with the Coil also say 83' and later HD with dual fire Ignition.

Am I gonna mess my chop up?

This site swears by them: http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/hdseignition.htm
This guy (four Posts Down) Loves em too: http://www.v-twinforum.com/forums/ev...tion-coil.html

"Talk Amongst Ya'selves"

LOL

Thanks!

BOGUS.
Was that the swap in Morris?
I'm always forgetting.

Dual fire comes stock.

I will say CHECK YOUR PLUGS!
also....
CHECK YOUR TIMING!
Make sure you aren't running Lean or too far retarded/ advanced.
You don't want to go burning up your motor.
If you aren't then I'd say you're all good in the hood.

Whew.
Yeah.......that ignition module.......

you put that in your "Points cover" right?
It Definitely Matters how that thing is in there........

HERE is the general Idear....

It's pretty similar with electronic ignition.......mine actually had a little LED that lit up when the connection was made.....you want your ignition set just before contact.

You could take it to a shop and have them time it with a light to be more accurate.....but "Static timed" is pretty close........as in it won't mess up your engine.

If too far advanced or retarded you can cause "detonation" and you can also burn a hole in your piston or worse.

IT WILL RIDE......even if the ignition is way off.

Also: After you do all that you can check your plugs.
Let your bike get to operating temperature........then cruise at about 55-60ish mph for about ten minutes or so.

Then pull over, get out yer 13/16 deepwell socket and pull one of your plugs out. Engine off of course.

If it is WHITE or WHITE ish.....you're too lean(can ruin your bike if not fixed).

If it is BLACK and coated........Too Rich(will not ruin your bike but should be fxed).

You Want COCOA Brown. That's about perfect.

At least that's my understanding.
Also be sure you're Electronic ignition is dual spark as well as you're coil.

Sometimes it's more complicated than just buying parts and slapping them on.
But, that's how we learn isn't it.......

Bander,

Ahh the years I spent fucking with points and timing. LOL

The thing im talking about is the "computer" on the ignition circuit. (Photo Included)

But youre totally correct in your instruction.

Here are some shots of my plugs from my test. Look good to me. What do you guys think?
