When you say best, are you talking cheapest, best performing, best looking?

Still in the dark about exactly what you are looking for. Rebel shocks work but are said to be a bit stiff. You can fit certain Burlys on there as well as some other stuff. Or just get some stock used ones and slap them on.

rebel shocks are a joke on these- work as well as running solid struts.
go with shorter shocks actually made for the xs650s if thats the route you want to go.

Sorry to be so blunt, but You have no fucking clue do you?

Heres an idea, before you worry about what "shocks" and custom swingarm you put on, how about get it running..

Might I suggest, setting up a rolling chassis, and playing with the stance you want:

Just frame, forks, swing arm (no shocks), and wheels.

Use some blocks (wood) of different sizes to set your "stance" up. Once it gets to where its what your lookin for, start checking out whats going on (travel, rake and trail, etc). See if there will be any problems you can identify (like ifd you want drag pipes, but you only have 3" of ground clearance, you may have a problem), and if they can be remedied, or needs to be avoided by doing something else.

Not everyone is born with all the knowledge needed to build an Iron Horse cover bike. Asking questions is good. At least by asking questions, you can get a clue.

Hope that helps, and good luck!

Thats how we learn.

The OP tho, already has the bike running. So he's got that knocked outta the park.

Now it's time to build it the way he wants it.
