UK Hard Up Chop build's.

A good friend and myself are busy with a HARD UP CHOPPER bike build. The HUC's are a frame designed to take oil cooled suzuki engines,wheels,electrics etc etc,so are a popular build in the UK.
This is the main one we are busy with at the moment,its a 600cc engine,with good old basic black black and more black paint.

We have ideas for the next builds,one of which will be getting the frame widened at the rear to take a 240 tyre,and will have a dragbike influence.

Ive just ordered another frame from HUC yesterday to take a Yamaha fj1200 engine,so im excited about that.
I hope you like my stuff,as im a newbie to chops,and learning as i go.

Been looking at their frames. Thinking of hardtailing my KZ. Only thing holding me back is droppinganother 400 on A bike I'm gonna be bored with and looking to upgrade in a year. The HUC crowd had an interesting chop in this months Backstreet Heroes.

If you can afford the price of a frame i think they are cool. With just a change of tank,you can change the style of the bikes easily,so as to not look like the other persons.
This morning I was putting wheels in front of and behind the frame to check my idea out. I fancy an exile style one,satin alloy,wire wheel in the front,solid split rim in the rear.....etc. Ive my eye on a suzuki gs500 twin at the moment,as i fancy a twin chop with candy flake paint,polished casing etc. More on that if i get the gs500!

Something else that cropped up the other day was a change of carbs to carb. Ive a spare GSXR750 motor with no carbs,so I fancy this idea (mocked up). Ive been and bought some bends and tee pieces for the manifold.

If your a BSH reader,last months cover bike (the NSU supercharged thing) is now lacking its supercharger. Only problem is,it wont fit in the HUC frame. Doh!

The cost of the frame isn't prohibitive, it's a damn good price. It's the cost of the frame for how much use I'll get out of it. I've spent so much time bringing this bike back to life I kind of hate it. But I'm still kinda tempted. I'm sure my better half wouldn't mind me hogging the kitchen again. How simple are they to mark out for the engine mounts? I'd have to drag it to a local guy to get them welded on.

By the way, that supercharger is something else...

I can see what you mean. If your not using the bike a lot of the time,and as just a toy,it could seem like an expense to do? But,the amount of people,myself included,who have bikes that never seem to get used is high.
The HUc's can be a cheap build if you do it yourself. I anticipate the black one should be finished for about 1200-1300 pounds? But,thats with us doing it all,paint,machining,welding,wiring etc etc then things like tyres,brake pads,oil etc etc can add up. Time is the issue. I also forgot having to make an exhaust system.
I have to be honest,ive a knackered back and a false hip,no way will i ever ride a HUC. But,i enjoy the build process. Thats what keeps me entertained. I plan to build 3 or 4 bikes,stock pile them until next spring/easter and then sell. So feel free to start saving!!! Im not rich,im risking a lot of money (for me)which could go tits up,could be a waste of months of my time,or if im lucky,could give me a few extra quid,to then invest back into bikes.
The frames come with the rear bottom engine mounts in place,drop your motor in,chock it level,mark where the brackets go and weld. Nice and easy. You need to weld brackets for the footpegs,torque arm,tank,rear mudguard,and seat mounts. Its not that hard if you have the gear.

Continueing on,HUCs offer massive scope,my ideas for a few are;
number 1 bike,black black black black,donor bike wheels brakes,forks etc.Simple.
number 2,wire wheel in the front,solid split rim in the rear,all alloy brush finished,satin black paint done! Exile cycles style.
number 3,widened rear section of frame,240 tyre with car wheel,home made wheel hubs,top fuel style rear wheel adjuster,machined in my workshop,mr turbo style header exhaust sytem,one off single carb......a bit more involved.
number 4,thin polished wheels,polished engine cases,metalflake candy paint,old skool,with springer style front end,all done here in my workshop.
number 5, 7x17 car wheel with home made wheel hubs,usd front end,gloss black wheels/engine etc with gloss white tank/mudguards tank etc.
Nunber 6, Styled along the lines of a 50's british bike....
number 7 Candy painted everything type of bike,a classy one...
Then theres the new HUC trike frames....
I think i could if time/money skill etc was good,build a few without them looking the same,every one could look individual.
Give me a year or two.......Unless come next easter time,i dont sell at a profit...

I must point out,im very very lucky with my workshop and equipment. Over time,im 48 yrs old,Ive managed to buy a lathe,a very nice milling machine,an AC/DC TIG set,a big mig set,Ive a small spray booth,blasting equipment........so im fairly well equiped. But to get the equipment i have ive not had many holidays,times when ive been wanting things for myself,such as a decent motorbike,Ive spent the money on tools. Its been a hard toil to get to where I am,but hopefully worth the time and worth the sacrifice's ive made. And my family have made.......I love them.

It'll get use, but we'll see. I might cave yet. Fair play to ye for gathering all the tools you need. I'm sure it wasn't cheap or easy.

A small amount of work happened last night for an hour or two.
I made a temp wheel hub /bearing carrier so that i could fit a rear wheel and some forks to make a roller.
