WTB Anyone know of a wrecked bike?

This can get moved if need be.....

So I want something new to chop. Im hoping to get something in the under a G range. Realisticly, I want a wrecked bike with a straight frame. Now i live in western PA, so its not uncommon for the hicks around here to total their pick up, get the check, and then take the body off, smack up the frame, and replace with an unwrecked body.

Sad but true.....

Anyway, does any body know a wrecked twin or has anyone done the buy back deal on their totaled bike and rebuilt it?

or am I just pipe dreamin hahaha

I think lots of guys look for wrecked bikes since we're chopping them anyways. Try some local tow yard auctions and keep your eye on CL. You'll find what you're looking for.

For this type of thread, I'd either make contacts in the Brolodex or put a clear "WTB in PA" type classified.

Maybe post this in the classifieds? And i hear they invented this thing called google. You could type in things like "wrecked motorcycles PA" or "salvage motorcycle near PA" and all sorts of shit comes up.

Do you have a repo lot near you? If your close to a poverty stricken city there's bound to be a few. I see newish dynas and sportsters at them all the time. You might want want to up your price range to 3 to 5 grand though unless you want a beat ass old ironhead or a rice bike

Crankyape.com has wrecked and repo bikes on auction all the time. My brother bought his Harley from them as a rebuilder.

Keep in mind that if a bike has been totaled out by an insurance company, it is most likely going to have a junk / salvage title, vehicles with junk / salvage titles can never be legally operated on the street again, and are basically only good for parts.

This is wrong for CA. you'd have to check your local laws but here you can ride/drive salvaged vehicles all day long. They sometimes need an inspection though. No big deal.

That's not true for nc either. It doesn't even make sense. What's the point of gettin a title if you can't ride it on the street

if i'm not mistaken my brother who's a mechnic buys bikes at easyexport.us to repair them. i was lucky to acquire one of them as a birthday present. i don't understand much about the technic side of the deal but as he explained to me my bike was made of two crashed ones. but i wouldn't notice it if i didn't know the truth!
as far as i know he buys the bikes from different parts of the country and these guys have a delivery service. so there will be no problem for you being in pa.
