Its not an effing "Metric Cruiser"

I just road this hardtailed, no front brake, no speedo XS650 70's build resurrection to California from Columbus and I have to see what others think of this parking lot encounter at a Lowes a long the way..

This is a real deal bike from before anyone uttered the words "metric cruiser"! So when I met a guy the parking lot and he said "so that's one of them metric cruisers"... I was pretty harsh... I think I responded with no its not an effing "Metric Cruiser" I was insulted and I'm not even sure why.

I did calm down quickly and politely explain that Jap Choppers like this predate any of the so called "Metric Cruisers" and chopping Jap bikes is not something new. He was puzzled. I guess you get it or you don't. I learned even Jap Chopper guys can be elitist (and I strive not to be)! But seriously I just can't call this bike or bikes like it by that name.

What do Chop Culter's think? Just because its Japanese should it be called a metric cruiser? -Bear

I've rode H-D's longer than anything (30 years on motorcycles). I think the 650 Chop is Cool. I do not think "Metric Cruisers" are Cool. I see them as "What did you buy that for"?

I also struggle with the H-D riders who want everydamnthing possible CHROME. Chrome is Shit in my book. I want to Ride it, not wipe hand prints and dust of Chrome.

I'm pretty sure I've seen that bike before. Have you ridden through Vegas in the last month? I'm almost certain I rode past you on the 15. Sweet bike.

You shouldn't have taken offense, and you shouldnt have been rude to the guy. He probably just didn't know what to call it, because he ain't into motorcycles at the level you are.

It's definately a metric... but it's definately NOT a cruiser... it's a chopper, baby!

I'm generally not real keen on seeing the XS's turned into raked choppers, just because I think they look so much better with more of a bobber, or cafe racer style, and harleys are the best bike for the raked chopper look, IMO.. but your's is righteous!! Great job, my friend! I may have to rethink my views on raked Yammie chops.

Who cares what side of the tool box you grab wrenches from?

A guy at work tried giving me shit for riding a RoadStar instead of a "real bike". To which I replied "I like having twice the reliability for half the cost and don't need an outdated brand name to impress other viagra-popping midlife crisis douchebags."

I'm with the group on this, that is far from a cruiser and a really nice chopper. I dig the front end. More so I'm impressed on the ride. I drove a truck out there not far back and I thought to myself that the next time I do it, its on the chop.

Cruisers:

Chopper:

Chop

Bobber, or boober, depending.....

Rat

That should sum it up. However, to a vast majority of people, they are all the same. Try not to get offended when someone who has no clue tries to talk to you about something they know nothing about.....Maybe the dude thought your ride was cool and wanted to learn more, but didn't want to look like an idiot.
