    Default '09 Nightster starving for fuel at start up....

    So here's a riddle for all you smart fellers out in the 33 Land...
    I have recently started having a problem with my fuel infected, I mean INJECTED sporty when I try to start it. It start right up just like it should, then immediately dies a second later. Sometimes it only does this once or twice then starts and runs, but sometimes it takes an hour or more to get it going. The weird thing is, once it starts, it runs great, NO issues whatsoever.
    I have pulled and cleaned/ applied dielectric grease to all fuses, and relays, pulled the battery cleaned terminals, applied Di grease, and made sure the connections were tight. Here is where it gets really weird, and where I'm hoping someone out there can tell me what this red flag means:
    I can make the bike start EVERY TIME by doing the following;
    1) Turn ignition to ON
    2) Pull out fuse that runs the fuel pump
    3) Leaving ignition key ON, put fuse back in
    4) Push start button, starts up!
    If I turn the key OFF during this, it won't work, just does the same 'start then immediately die' thing.
    I know that has to mean something to the right person, this makes me think there is something wrong with the fuel pump, but like I said, once it runs, it runs awesome, no hiccups, no bullshit. I am trying to stay far away from the dealership here, so I would like to fix this pup on my own. Thanks, guys!

    i have a 97 pontiac grand prix that did the same thing, if i puched the fuel pump relay to the left, it startedand ran fine. if i let go of the fuse, it died immediately. it needed a new fuse box.

    make sure your fuel line is seated in all the way, and not kinked. then like the other said check the fuel relay. Is your fuel pump turning on like it should and all that jazz?

    Check all of the above, and make sure the fuel pump is priming every time you hit that switch, to me it sounds like it could be the fuel pump failing. good luck.

    I have an 09' as well, and have become a fairly good electrical expert because of it. I've had the exact same problem. Do you have security?

    Was there ever a solution to this? I have the same problem with an 07.
