Screw Modern Technology.

So I had a Crane ignition for years and no problems, until the rotor cup worked loose and tore the hell out of the sensors on the back. So I ordered an Ultima and installed it. Pretty staightforward instructions, no problems or questions there. Kicked right off and went into a nice lopey idle ( I love P-cams). Idled out the driveway and onto the highway, shifted into second and it just shut right the hell off. So after an hour or so of diddling with it, I decided it was just fucked. I pulled it out and banged my head on the wall for awhile. Then I remembered having an old point and mechanical advance set-up somewhere in a drawer. Aha!! I found it, put all that in and the coil too. Started on the first kick.....so now to get my money back. No more electronic ignition for me !!!!

And the greybeards are smiling...

Good luck returning an electronic part. Most places wont take them back because people hook them up wrong and burn them up....

But yeah, nothin wrong with points!

Many years ago a guy I knew had a similar issue. Dealer told him absolutely no way would they take back a coil that didn't work right out of the box. He was wrong. Next morning there it was sitting in the showroom. I still think a refund would have been cheaper than replacing that BIG front window.

It took awhile to figure it out what was causing the problem because it was so sporadic and the stator was a 2 year old harley one so I just figure that cant be it.

Nah , don't think so. I did test the battery and it's charging good now.

Ok I guess I have to eat a little crow here. Turned out I had the hot wire from the battery seperate inside the insulation. However, I'm gonna leave the points in just for the troubleshooting ease in the future.

My clutch and kickstand switches had shitty connectors so I tore them out.

Today I was leaving the gym and forgot I had left it in gear... ran my front tire up the concrete tirestop.
