Do they carry a lot of biltwell products or are they just listed cause they sell a helmet or two? Basically wondering if they would carry the vests at all so I can try them on. I guess I could call the couple that arent too far from me to find out but......

call. the shop I apprentice at is a dealer, but we only order stuff as we need it for builds, or as customers request it.

But if that's the case, as it is with most shops these days -nobody stocks shit any more, the customer could just order directly from the sources and cut out the cost of the middle man. No?

that's true. i can't say how other shops operate. but if someone came to choppahead looking for a vest, we'd need to order it for them.

Another bummer of future times.
Internet ordering is just a couple minutes away. Shops stock as little as possible to keep inventory overhead down.
Sometimes we like to touch shit...

That's the thing. ill buy most stuff from the internet but clothes and such, Id rather see in person and try on. Nothing more irritating than ordering something like a vest or a coat and getting it and not liking how it fits. Then having to go through the whole returning process.

I'm the same way bones - I wanna see it, feel it, put it in my little grubby hands. I'll drive way outta the way to support a brick and mortar store. Example - I needed some new dart flights. i could have ordered them online, but, I drove 1.5 hours to Raleigh to buy flights and shafts....

i think the pricing is set at a fixed level so most places will be about the same price
the companies dont sell to the public at dealer cost
so the dealers pay less but sell at retail cost to make money just like every other business
so you the customer is paying the same retail price
so in the end you are supporting the local shops etc that answer all your questions etc about what you have or need help with etc

Too many times Ive ordered something and have been disappointed because I never saw it in person. Biltwell products excluded. But those were always parts Ive ordered and not clothing. At least they have the measurements posted. Im just gonna have to see which will fit. Im thinking a medium. i just see that theyre shorter now. Anyway, I dont want to harp on the vest. Theres already a thread for that.
1.5 hours for flights and shafts? I dont know if im that bad.

Darts are serious business.
Tell me about it. Ive seen a guy shooting darts in a bar league not get mad when his OL was being flirted with. The next week, he punched a guy in the face over a dart game.

We DO NOT fuck around when it comes to darts. For a while before I moved to VA, I was the president of the Eugene-Springfield Dart Association. Me and a buddy would practice in different bars on off nights, throwing with our off hand. IE: I'm left handed, so I would throw right. We would then attempt to lure unsuspecting darters into betting us. To up the odds, we would offer to play "with the other hand." We won some cash. It was cool.
We still play for money - best 3out of 5 legs for 20 bucks. It's amazing how rapidly people shut up when you take them for a few hundred bucks.

I'm gonna go ahead and call those guys idiots. I've been approached by many dudes in a bar (hell yeah!) that want to play pool for money. That's a sign that I should turn them down. Even if I'm feeling my game is solid... Fuck losing money to some strange butthole in the bar.

There is not going to be many dealers that carry all the vest sizes. There are a few, but for the most part a dealer will stock a few things in really popular sizes or colors, and then order anything else for you as needed. If a shop has an open dealer account with us, they get listed on the Dealer Finder. You absolutely should call them first in a case like this where you are looking for a specific thing like a vest in two or three sizes to try on.

That is totally valid. A good shop will have valuable knowledge and experience and can help you make the right decision on whatever part you are looking for. Finding an indy locally that you can trust is a goldmine over the years you will spend working on your bike. I talk to my local parts guy and mechanic all the time before buying certain parts and I generally buy through them in those cases even though I have the same dealer accounts they do. I figure their years of experience have value and I'm glad they share the knowledge.
Like SC said, you can't just cut out the middleman and drop prices otherwise all dealers would be screwed, so standard MSRP's are adhered to by everyone. When this isn't the case it usually ends up in a price bloodbath which fucks everyone in the end. It's why we are generally pretty hard on discounters.
