I think you're seeing the results of poor lighting. the fenders are steel, no bronze...

as for mounting to a 03 Sportster frame, with minimal mods (drilling a few holes) it should mount up. The tank will have no problem fitting the backbone

got my narrow sporty tank in the mail today. great quality. best tank quality i have seen. solid built.....here is in just sitting on my backbone of my 07 sporty. crappy cell phone pic but i love this tank. shipping was quick, zach went above and beyond to make sure it would fit my backbone...

Just got my narrow sporty tank as well... this thing is super solid. I did a pressure test and it was perfectly leak-free. I definitely recommend these guys.

I'll post some pics once I get it mounted.
