Couple Mooneyes 4" a/c questions

I've been searching old threads but still have a couple questions. Is it ok to run it on an S&S super E without a backing plate? The only thing holding the carb on is the intake manifold, is the carb gonna stay in place without being fastened to the heads? If not, will a hacked up S&S backing plate work with the 4" filter? I know from the old threads that a SE backing plate works for hacking and fitting, but I have an S&S backing plate, and no $$, the mooneyes a/c was super cheap and looks cool, so I'm trying to make it work. I'm not a welder yet, but I have a cutoff tool and some files.

Also, it's an FXR with an 89" evo, is the 4" filter too restrictive? Will it flow enough air for the STD heads and .561 cam? Thanks for any advice. It's not a "chopper", but it is my daily rider.

Oops I just posted a thread about this. What do you mean that it is not fastened to the heads? My 93 is a bolt on manifold to the heads and to the carb. Is yours different?

The part where this backing plate mounts to the heads, helps hold the carb in place.

Isn't that for the breathers... on the heads and you will have to get a different enrichener set up like a nob instead.. If I am remembering right

Ya but mine's a bottom breather. Just wondering if anybody ran into problems having the carb held on only by the manifold. I cut my broken S&S backing plate up to see if I could use it just to mount the carb to the heads, didn't work. The moon bracket mates up nice to the flat carb throat, but not to the rounded S&S backing plate. I guess I could get a used SE backing plate and cut it up, but I like the open look on my top end without it. Anybody have any probs running a small air cleaner with no backing plate? I'm a noob to "choppers", just trying to get my FXR running right on the cheap.

You are going to need to support the carb one way or another. You can make something that comes off that top case bolt (see all the extra threads hanging out there). Some sort of simple "L" bracket maybe? I think using those two head bolts up top would be a lot stronger if you can figure something out. I made one on my FXR from the old filter backing plate, but you've already determined that won't work with your S&S one, so maybe hit a swap or something for an old cheapo you can cut up?

I'll try the screamin eagle backing plate, trim it up a lil. Thanks.
