BORN FREE CONVOY (Starting in Rochester,ny)

So heres some of the rough travel plans I have sketched, It would be awesome to meet up with people along the way who are also making the trek....PM me or email if youd like to tag along

Ironkaaos@gmail.com

24th Rochester,ny to Chicago,IL
25th Chicago,il to Lincoln,ne
26th Lincoln,ne to Denver,co
27th Denver to Somewhere in Utah for camping....
28th Utah to vegas or to Silverado,Ca

This gives for roughly 500 mile days, and well be starting everyday around 7am, Factoring in 70mph avg speed, gas stops every 50-60 miles, etc Im looking at roughly 10-12 hour riding days.
As well as an entire down day for a breakdown, etc.

So Lets see who wants to come along.....or hell even jam along part of the way.

Just a heads up, you dont want to cross through Vegas to Barstow during the middle of the day, its already getting hotter than hell here, your a ways away but the forcast for this friday is 108 and its only gonna get hotter. Shoot for a very early morning or an over nite ride. I'll pm you my contact info should any problems arise in my vicinity, good luck sounds like a fucking blast.

You're running right through my backyard. I live 45 miles west of Lincoln and right off the interstate (York NE) I can't make the run but if y'all keep me posted as to when you're coming through I'd put a few miles down with ya. Or if you're needing a place to camp I have a HUGE yard and a big grill.

Take it from somebody who's done the Denver to L.A. ride a bazillion times on a bike along the route you're taking.......

Western CO, and Utah can be, and usually are, almost as hot as Nevada. It's not unusual to have temps in the mid-high 90's along that part of your route, especially between Green River, UT and Mesquite, NV. The heat and stopping to hydrate yourself will definately slow you down some. You HAVE to stop and drink water, and if you're tired from partying, hung over, or not hydrated, this stretch of your trip from Grand Jct. CO to L.A. will really take it out of you physically and mentally. It will also fry you to a crisp if you're the type of person who thinks sunscreen is for sissies.

Beaver UT is approx. 1/2 way between Denver and L.A. at about 540 mi. and there are several campgrounds in Beaver, plus the usual chain motels. But, we usually go to Richfield, UT the first day. The 110 mi. stretch between Green River, UT and Salina, UT has NO services whatsoever, just ranch exits, so you guys can plan on filling up your tanks and filling your spares in Green River, stopping at about the Emery exit at Mile marker 89 to fuel, or if your tanks can make it to Mile marker 85, there's a rest area there that's easier to refuel at. That stretch is usually like riding in a reflector oven. Once you get to Richfield, no worries on gas stops. Richfield is approx. 15mi. from Salina.

Mesquite NV to the Vegas area isn't usually mild temps either. The Mesquite area is usually in the 90-100 degree zone. I would suggest you gas when you get to the Speedway Exit at the North end of Vegas, and blow right through that fucking town. Vegas is a clusterfuck on a bike (especially if it's your first time going through) and I'm sure I-15 is still fucked up with construction going through town. The traffic sucks in Vegas itself once you get off I-15 if you're on a bike. There is no "easy off and on" on any of the exits when you go through town, especially trying to keep a group of riders and chase vehicles together.

I would go the extra 20 min. past Vegas to Primm, NV, right on the Cal. border. It's just a shithole casino town, but you can get medium quality rooms there almost as cheap as you could get a camping space someplace else. Primm is approx. 4 to 5 hours from L.A. depending on traffic and accidents (both which aren't uncommon), but that's the hottest stretch you'll probably ride if you do it in the daytime. We've come through Vegas at 11:00am and the temps are already in the high 90's, plus that's the time everybody checks out of their rooms and heads back to L.A., and traffic really sucks on I-15 South. We've hit Baker, CA and thanked God it was only 98 degrees, because we've ridden through there when it's been 110-115 degrees. Jeffo is right, that's not a stretch you want to do in the afternoon, but we seem to wind up doing it more often than not at that time of day. Just be prepared ahead of time if you do, and it's "tolerable" to ride it.

And remember, if any chase vehicle is pulling any kind of trailer, or has a motorhome, once you hit the Cal. border, you're restricted to the right lane or truck lane only, and you're speed limit is 55mph. That goes for all of Cal. You can pass slower moving trucks and vehicles when you're pulling a trailer, but you better get your ass back into the right lane or the truck lane ASAP after you do, or the CHP will definately write you a ticket if they spot you cruising in the left lane. They are pretty strict on that on that stretch of I-15 from the border into L.A., and believe me, there are a lot of CHP's on that stretch writing tickets, and Cal is a broke state....

And, I should have added, if you decide to camp at Salina or Richfield UT, once it gets dark, the mosquitoes will eat you alive if you don't have repellent on.

Also, after you get through with the stretch of I-15 between Primm NV and Barstow, take the E. Main St exit in Barstow, turn left on E. Main and go over I-15. It's a good exit to fuel at, and Tom's Burgers is down a couple blocks. Good place to get a good burger, service is fast, and it's a great place to sit down, and cool off from the heat. We never miss Tom's.....

Were headed out via 90 i think all the way to Denver then dropping through the mountains to Utah, we could maybe meet up in Cleveland? Its all up to you man....I only can get about 60 miles a tank, So ill be rolling with a 2 gallon jug for this said 110 mile barren wasteland....makes this dude fuckin nervous. Also I only top out around 75 currently(getting this remedied before leaving) and Im planning on just hammering it out around 70 the whole way. the first 2 days will be fucking brutal, Rochester to Chicago, then Chicago to Nebraska, but from there its all 400-450 miles a day, which Ive been doing on my test runs the past couple months. Im confident I can do this as long as I wrench regularly, and keep fluids in her.

PM me L8erSk8er and we can make some plans if youd like

Also, irishrich317, you are my hero, honestly it's dudes like you that keep me riding. So honest, straight forward and no bullshit. Awesome of you.

Were planning on leaving Richfield,UT around 4am to get to vegas by 11am(factoring in issues etc) to try and avoid 100+ degree heat, as well as Vegas to Silverado were leaving around 4am.

Im hoping the old girl makes it....she is almost 50, I have faith though

Hey, it's OK, like I've said, I've made a bazillion trips out to L.A. by bike, car, and pulling a big trailer.

People will argue with me, but from the time you start out in the morning, until the time you pull in for the night, when it's all said and done between gas stops, rest/meal stops, minor/major bike problems, wrong turns, road construction, traffic jams and accidents, weather, etc, etc, I don't care how slow or fast you ride, you'll average 55mph for the whole day. That's how you plan your riding day mileage, and the destination you want to end up at when the sun goes down.

I think you'll want to hold off leaving at 4:00am from Vegas to head to Silverado, you can leave later than that. I don't think you want to hit that stretch of the 15 and the 91 area at 9:00am. Better to come in between 11:00am - 1:30/2:00pm traffic-wise. You can split lanes no problem, but if you have chase vehicles, they can't........

No chase vehicle.....

And yea its funny our minds work alike, I factored 55mph avg per hour of riding....I mean actual speed on the highway I wanna go 70 avg.

I factored at 70, stopping for gas every 50 miles will be every 42 minutes, let the bikes rest for 10-15 while fueling/drink some water/eat an apple, a 30 minute lunch break.....12 hours first day, and 10-12 the second.....itll be hell those first 2 days, But getting to lincoln in 2 days will make the rest of the trip a little less stressful I feel

Thankfully I dont drink, just smoke herb like a motherfucker(not carrying any with me duh). Im planning on sleeping by 10-11pm at night and getting starts of 6-8am from Lincoln, denver, and everywhere after Cali(going up to portland). So Im thinking ill be able to hammer this out. Carrying all my own food, minimal eating out, will stock up at grocery stores, etc
