Gas stations get tested to make sure they are selling what they are advertising. They get fined if its lower so there is a petty good chance that what you are getting is actually higher than what you are paying for. Perhaps mixing the two balances it out? Just a thought.

Fuck it, I'm gonna build a bike that burns diesel. Dirty smelly fuel oil that permeates everything it comes on contact with. Read about a Ural 2wd bike that had a diesel motor swapped in, had some crazy ass range of like 1000 miles (tank was a 5 gal Jerry can)
Probably won't win any 1/4 mile drag races but it would open up the ability to log miles between fill ups.

Was not an issue before, as my big Rocket III 2300 ran great on regular gas - then I did a bunch of motor work and now it only likes Premium. I love knowing that the first 1/3 of a gallon is low test. Fuckers. Most people will never notice or care, because they are filling up their cage's 15+ gallon tank and not a 3-4 gallon bike tank. 1/3 of a gallon is nothing to them.

And if you fuel up after a guy like me you get the double whammy..
Ever notice how sometimes when you pull the trigger on the nozzle the price jumps to .20 or .30 cents? Ever wonder why? It's because the guy before you might have been me! I always strip the hose. Before the pump shuts off I hold the hose up and at an angle so that whatever would normally be left in the hose where it loops down and around goes neatly into my tank. That way I get what the other guy left behind AND what would have been left behind for the next guy. It does add up over time.

only some states do this. here in texas they check it once ever few years and even if its been cut they tell them to stop it and go on. no fines no nothing.

I do tha same shit cuz, gas is too fuckin expensive, it should be $1.00 for 1 gallon, thats about what its reallyworth.
I sometimes blend my fuel ...on purpose tho, Not many stations here offer 103 octane, most only go up to 98, tho there is a place I can go to get racing fuel (i think its like 105, this is an oil distributor, not a gas station) I occasionally go 50% 98 and 50% 105, this puts me in and around the 100-102ish mark, which the Triple REALLY loves ! I also NEVER use that Ethanol shit.
There is a pretty good article by GTP in "The Horse" this month, (4 pages vs tha normal 2) and he tested diff gas, ( I didnt get to finnish readin the article, sryy ass bro of mine)you can buy a gas test kit for like $15, so you can tell what the octane, and Ethanol content is. I think his conclusion was that you will loose about 50% of your Ethanol fuel, in a vented gas tank, due to evaporation, within a 30 day period. He also got less mileage w/ Ethanol. I think it was like 35% evap. w/ non ethanol over the same time frame. So just cuz you think your saving at the pump,by using that Ethanol shit,....are you really saving?

Some pumps around here show the price per gallon of the last sale on the pump, so you know what they were pumping. If the pump doesnt show it, bust out your phone. Im sure it has a calculator on it, that way you can be sure. At some of the bigger stations, youre bound to find a hose where someone pumped premium last...

but do you really wanna walk around the gas station solving mathematical equations or just get gas and leave?
i like the idea of filling up the 5gal gas cans

I've often wondered about this myself. I emailed Shell Oil and asked them. This is the response I got:
On the use of a single hose to dispense multiple grades of fuel - Shell standards for these multiple grade single hose pumps are for a smaller diameter hose to reduce the amount of fuel left over from a previous dispense. The fuel grade change point is directly above the hose connection resulting in a residual volume of 0.56 liters for small diameter hose, or 0.78 liters if the pump happens to be equipped with a non-standard large diameter hose. While this amount will have only a very small effect on a typical car fill up, the effect is larger on a motorcycle tank with limited capacity.
They basically told me yup, you're getting fucked, and we aren't gonna do a damn thing about it. Have a nice day.
AND damn near all the pumps around here "happen to be equipped with a non-standard large diameter hose"

Seeing my 2.1 peanut tank is so small on my Sporty, I tend to fill it up every ride when its around 1/2 full. So its usually just over a gallon, or 4L. The pumps I go to have a common hose for all 3 grades of octane, 87 Regular, 89 Supreme, and 94 Premium on the pump.
For instance, if Bobby Joe filled up his 91' Buick before me with "Regular", and I select "Premium"... How much of that is actually 94 octane fuel?
Assuming the hose is approx 8' long and 3/4" diameter, that's a volume of approx 42in3, 24oz, or 0.7L in the hose alone... Plus the hose inside the machine, the meter, etc...
If I'm only taking 4L of fuel I'm guaranteed that 20% or probably more of that is only Regular 87 octane and the rest is Premium, I'm losing quite the percentage of my octane rating...
In my truck when I fill it with over 90L it isn't an issue.. But it kind of ticks me off that I'm practically paying for Premium and if I'm lucky, I'm actually only getting Supreme at best.
It doesn't make the world of a difference, but its just one of those things...
Ya know?
I work for a midstream energy terminal and ship hundreds of thousands of Litres of fuel per day, including pure Iso-Octane... I'm gonna have to start stealing and make my own blends! HaHa
Rant over...
a little off topic but why use premium gas , you running at a higher compression than stock ?

Thieving bastards.
I mean, they are theiving bastards, but they aren't benefitting from you. the gas you are getting in the hose was paid for by the person in front of you, and the gas left was paid for by you. so any extra you paid for the half liter of premium you didn't get is lost on the next person who gets that half liter of premium when they only paid for regular.
