i dont have any pics but if i get an opportunity ill take one, but i baught some random ass 70s vintage fullface here on chopcult and i cleaned the shit out of it and baught a new biltwell liner for i think like 25 bucks?? fits perfectly feels great and doesnt have that old ass smell from before!

I gutted my first gen Loser Machine helmet and popped in a biltwell reline kit(fit like a glove), only thing I kept were the original flannel print ear pieces. Don't have pictures of the inside (too lazy) but it looks like a biltwell helmet would. It's SOOOO much more comfortable. Let's just say that if I ever had to reline any other helmet, a biltwell liner is what I would use.

Actually just got one. Fit's perfect, however, the ear piece is going to be an issue for me, because they snap in, and there are no snaps on the inside of my lid. Gonna need to finger something out. I'll grab a few pics of the inside tonight when I get home.

I used one for some random ebay helmet I bought and it fit perfect. had the same issue with the snaps on the ear pieces but they fit in there and stay put with out the snap. I dont have any pics cause Im deployed but I would say it would be money well spent if you got a lid that needs to be redone and you dont feel like making your own.

Sadly, gyro, I did try to make my own. I probably had a few too many beers while working on it, cause it was fucking crappy. I got spray adhesive all over the place, glued fabric to the damn table, cut the wrong size foam, laid the fabric to the foam wrong, got shit all over the place. It was a disaster.
Went kinda like this:
Open beer and take a few swills.
Check all supplies.
Few more swills.
Look at supplies and have a smoke.
Open another beer.
Remove old smelly fucked up liner.
Drink more beer and have a smoke.
Make a pattern from the old liner.
Open another beer.
Look at fabric to cover foam, "eyeball" a big enough piece.
Drink and have a smoke.
Re-cut fabric.
Have a drink.
Spray adhesive to foam. Why the fuck did I do that?
Open another beer.
Recut foam for pattern.
Have a smoke and finish beer.
Lay foam out and spray adhesive. Lay fabric on foam to cover. Remove fucked up pile of foam from worktable cause it got stuck, due to the stupid amount of spray adhesive I used.
Swear and open a beer and have a smoke.
Chase kids away from work table.
Open a beer and have a smoke.
Recut fabric and foam.
Spray foam and lay fabric.
Have a beer.
Peel stuck fabric and foam from fingers.
Attempt to put liner in helmet. Why does this look so fucked up?
Try helmet on.
Attempt to remove helmet - without pulling out all of my fucking hair because the glue is still tacky.
Chase laughing wife from shop with a screw driver, with helmet now drying on my skull.
Rip helmet off. Fuck.
Pull fucked up attempt at coolness out of helmet and throw across the room.
Chase kids out of shop and open a beer.
Order a Biltwell liner and wait.

yeah thats pretty much how I operate too. everything I do takes a certin amount of time spent standing around drinkin beers and smokin cigarettes and staring at something before I do anything. so I just drank a bunch of beers and looked at all the threads on here and decided if I attempted to reline it myself it would end up costing me a fortune and come out looking like shit so I bought the biltwell liner and it was perfect and its my favorite lid now.

Bill - do you think I could take my current near new Daytona helmet and replace the liner with your kit? Its so uncomfortable at the moment. It's a new medium DOT style, but the shell is pretty small.

For $25 I might just give it a shot.
I've done it with my daytona helmet. I found the snaps at a local fabric store and it worked out pretty good. I have an Xl so the shell is big.

good to know the kit works so well. I've passed up a couple awesome but ratty helmets because I figured having them relined would just be too expensive. 25 bucks is totally reasonable.

I would think so. The typical opening for a Medium vintage helmet is about 6.5", the Daytona may vary a little, but it would certainly be tight. I think being 1 size off is worth a try, but I would doubt 2 sizes off would work.

I think you'd have to gut the hard foam liner out of one of those and replace it with our kit. This would eliminate the DOT portion of it of course. I think the lid is too small to fit our whole liner inside their foam. Part of the reason that helmet sucks is because it's mostly the hard safety foam and very little comfort liner.
Those helmets fit very "square" and I know that fits certain head shapes, but definitely not mine. If you wanna retain the foam for safety, try shaping it some. I've carved several race helmets by peeling back the comfort liner and taking an xacto knife, then a dremel with large sanding drum to the hard foam to relieve areas that rub. Wear one for a couple hours and you'll know right where those spots are, cut/sand them down, then slip the comfort liner back into place.

You are spot on about the fit of these things. I have a slightly ovalized shape head and get a huge imprint on my forehead after each ride. I may try to re-shape it but might just eventually replace the entire guts including hard liner with your kit. Thanks for the great tips as always.

Here's some pics of some random helmets I use the Biltwell reliners on...I chose to keep the side/earpieces from the original helmets intact. I have a few of these liners, but I generally just swap the top piece from helmet to helmet. Literally takes about 5 seconds.
And here's a reline kit in a 1st gen biltwell lid...guess this one was before the red stitching came out.
These things are the kitty's tits, and well worth the scratch.
Like I said, I actually use 1 for about 5 helmets.
