Faith and religion are in no way, mutually exclusive. You can't have one without the other.
It's actually the basis of Christianity and the Muslim religion.
Not sure how you think they don't coexist.
I guess I mean that you can have faith without being a religious nut. Having faith in a higher power is different than killing in the name of religion. I'm not sure exactly how to explain it.
I dunno. This shit has gotten way too metaphysical...

Being a religious nut is on the fringe, of course. But obviously is not requisite to religion. I'm not calling anyone here a religious nut.
I would point out that Buddhism and Taoism and other actually peaceful religions have far fewer nut jobs that let us know how much god hates fags and how we are infidels that must go to hell.
Once a tenet of one's religion includes spreading the "Good word", that's when the bad shit starts to happen. A feeling of elitism is always going to make someone justify beating their religion into people.
You know that quote... "Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.."
That seems to be everyone's beef with religion here.

Correct me if I'm wrong but your first post in this thread you spoke of how fun it is to try and change peoples mind , sounds like your preaching your "good word" .
And you also said that if people thought intelligently about it like you , an elitest attitude.

So your beef is against your own stance. hhmmmmm
Not necessarily. The point has been made; Why do we argue about religion, when it never changes anyone's mind?
I was being a proponent of arguing in spite of the fact that no one reverses their point of view. The fun part not being "converting" people, but in making the arguments.
Elitist attitude? Not really. If I told you, I could make you a lot of money if you invested in my business plan, wouldn't you want proof before risking your hard earned money?
If I told you I could cure cancer if you only believed in me. Wouldn't you want proof?
We have people questioning whether or not we landed on the moon and there's an over abundance of proof. Yet, people do not question stories that parallel Greek mythology.
Maybe I do come off elitist... I am able to look at myself introspectively. I can be a stubborn ass.
How dumb do I look as an atheist to a religious person? You guys are probably thinking, "Holy shit. This dude is so going to hell! How can he not see the path his life is on?!"
I ask myself, "What reason do they have to believe in any of this?" Stories you have been told since you were born are hard to let go of. Especially when no one lets you guys off the hook.

Personally I'd have no problem with religion if the religious didn't try to dictate politics and laws thus forcing their beliefs on everyone else. I'd live and let live if religion could do the same, but that would be fundamentally against it's very purpose.

Excuse me for putting myself in their shoes.
I didn't say a thing about apologizing, I've just lived with this notion of personal responsibility so long that I can't turn a blind eye to things we've (yes, I truly mean we) have done.

You need to read Luke 19 11-27 to understand that Jesus was telling a story (parable) of a hard king. That particular line is a quote of the hard king.
Takeing one verse and twisting it is how evil starts.

I have read the Bible through many times and it does not say to kill everyone who does not follow Christ.
The Spanish inquisition tortured and killed a lot of Christians and Pagans for no reason.
The Bible does say that Joshua was commanded to kill every person in the area now known as the Holy Land.
The problem is not the religions but the wackos who preach them and incite their followers to violence.

I agree with you. If christians were more worried about their personal relationships with christ and less worried about mine, I would have no problem with them.

Ah, but it does say to kill unruly children and disobedient wives.
Also, it's not the "wackos" (in Christians opinions) who exert their religious influence on the government. In my opinion anyone who tries to convince others of their imaginary friends and wants the laws to be as their magical wizard tells them it should be are wackos.

I am going to go ahead and infer that you don't see yourself as a "wacko", correct?
Knowing what you do about my thoughts and inclinations on religion, Christ, and the Christian god,... you do know with every fiber in your being that I, along with Kirk, Hooligan, and all other nonchristian people will burn in hell with all of our worst fears to torture us for all eternity, right?
