Pantsbeer your reline thread is what brought me to chop cult. Awesome! And everyone else who posted pics of their own relines took the ball and ran with it. I'm excited to try it out on my "new to me" blue flake 3/4 that should be arriving at my door any day know. A trip to Joanne's and the Salvation Army should be all I need.

informative write up. On a side note. I gutted a new 1/2 helmet which was more of a wind sail, and shoved all the guts into a bare 3/4 and it fits like a glove. One of many options Im sure. Also a good idea for those garage sale finds from who knows who sweated in...

That's my first try to reline my old lid. It's far to be perfect but the foam inside was totally rotten so it cannot be worst. Thanks for the tips by the way.

I will throw my hat into the ring...

I echo all of the positive comments from prior in this thread. You may be responsible for the resurrection of thousands if not dozens of old helmets.

i have had this cool little scuffed up helmet for a while but it was too crusty to wear. time to try a reline. i kept the styro cause i wanted to, but you dont have to. the straps were screwed in, with those out the styro was loose and could be worked out. i removed all of the crusty old orange foam and stuck in a rough cut of 1/2" foam.

[IMG][linked image][/IMG]

then i traced around it and cut it out with a scissor

[IMG][linked image][/IMG]

[IMG][linked image][/IMG]

then spray glued that to some fabric i picked up, clearance section, enough for probably 3 helmets $2.50
oh yeah the foam was $5 for half a yard, probably enough for 2.

i placed the flat side far enough from the edge to make it to th back side.

[IMG][linked image][/IMG]

that side showing is then sprayed and stuck to the inside of the styro with all of the excess flopping into the middle.

[IMG][linked image][/IMG]

i forgot to take the next pic, but you now spray the outside of the styro and pull the fabric from the inside of the helmet to the outside of the styro.

i then sprayed the whole outside of the styro which made it really hard to get back in. then when i got it in i couldn't shift it to the right spot. so i put a ribbon across the top of the styro so i could pull it around and then just cut it off.

[IMG][linked image][/IMG]

since i only bought 1/2 foam, i cut four pieces for the ears and glued them together

[IMG][linked image][/IMG]

wrapped them up

[IMG][linked image][/IMG]

glued them in and voila

[IMG][linked image][/IMG]

[IMG][linked image][/IMG]

top pad is pretty self explanatory, while i had the shell out i realized this helmet is made of clear plastic and flaked on the inside, so i went to town on the outside with some rubbing compound and some car wax, BAM!
