Sporty Mooneyes derby cover

Ok so I bought a mooneyes derby cover for my 02 sportster. The cover is cast aluminum and the sealing surface on it is kind of rough as cast stuff is. I installed it but didn't replace the o ring and guess what it leaked. No biggie went to the dealer bought a new o ring replaced it and now I still get a little seepage. Granted its only a little but too much as far as I'm concerned. Any ideas on sealant /gasket material to use with the o ring to stop it?

Hylomar. Best darn sealant for Harley motors. Expansive, but worth every penny.

That was my thought was just add some sealant.

Thought about sanding the cast finish on the cover smooth but am afraid of not getting it even and creating bigger issues.

Im not sure what bigger issue you could create, it already leaks.

Just get a sheet of sandpaper, put it on a flat surface, tape the paper to the flat surface and make circles. There's really nothing to it. Start with like 600 if your worried about taking too much off. Then new gasket and sealer, done.

the sealing surface is not on the edge its recessed. And if its not level it would leak even more.

Get a piece of glass (big one) and some valve grinding compound and do circles.
