1100 Sportster

Tell me more about 1100 sportsters, I had always figured they were Ironheads, but it seems I was wrong according to my quick google search I'm wrong......

This is has been for sale for a fair while, so I'm thinking I can talk the price down, and get a cheap (for Australia) Harley.......

1100 Sportsters were early Evo motors. Not too bad. They want way too much for that one though.

They were only made for 2 years, it was a gradual step of increasing the bore from 883 to see if the engine and trans could handle it and when it did, they went to 1200. Harley always starts off mild on a new product and slowly makes things bigger. We have an 87 1100 and it's a pretty peppy little critter with better mufflers and an S&S E. the only real difference are the bored out cylinders.

If things are so cheap in the USA then why are we always broke here?

My ride is an 87 1100. I love it. There are some things you should do with it though. I swapped my front sprocket so at higher speeds it's a little more comfortable. There's plenty of low end so it didn't hurt to rob some of it. Also, the butterfly carb is shit in my opinion. I put on a cv carb from a later HD. Needs the manifold for this swap. I've never had any major problems with it and I'm the third owner and had it for about 7 years now.

The world use to base their currency against the US dollar as the standard, but our dollar value is going to shit, so our economy sucks more than most.

As soon as the factory stop charging about twice the price for a Harley in Australia than they do in the states, I reckon sales will go up, it may even result in some affordable second hand bikes.......
48 sportsters are about AU$19000 in Aus, which is bordering on 20K $US.............

Oh, and I'll most likely be in your fine country next year for holidays (god bless your now cheap dollar) ;-)
