retro tires ride

Love the look of retro tires but not sure how they ride. On my xs650 build I put an avon safety mileage in the rear. Havent bought anything for the front yet. I love the look of the speedmasters for the front. But how to they ride? I hear they like to follow grooves in the road? Any body running any other retro tires? Coker, Dunlop, etc.....

Im also looking to throw some on my sporty which is my main ride now.

I've run Speedmasters up front on several bikes. They ride fine to me. Several guys I ride with have them, Shinko, Coker, Vintage Firestones, etc. and nobody has issues with ride quality. On my shovel build I'm going to run Vintage Firestones front and rear.

Down here in San Diego there are some pretty gnarly rain grooves and the Shinko Classic tires really track into them. My buddy said when he was following it looked like I was riding a wobbly bike. It's a bit hairy to have that speed wobble feeling at 75. On regular non grooved roads they handle just like my last tires.

I grabbed a Dunlop K70 for my front but haven't installed yet (next week) It got great reviews so I decided to try it. I'll check back in when I have a few miles on it to let you know. We have TONS of grooveson the shitty streets of NYC.

I have firestones front and rear and when I dig into a corner its a little squirrely, also at high speed but you get used to it.

Thats the K70 on the rear as well right? I could only find them in 18" and I have a 16" rear so I went with the Duro HF904 for the back. It was in the price range and had decent reviews.

Yeah, I was thinking that it would end up being something that I would just have to get used to.

I have the Avon SM on my triumph chop. It sucks on the grooved pavement. Cars tend to distance themselves from me when my rear wheel is moving around like that, if that's any consolation. It's great everywhere else.
