Your question sounds so simple we're all baffled.

Your headlight only has 3 Wires. Low Beam, High Beam and a ground. If you "chunk" your original like and put the amber one in, if it doesn't have a High Beam you'll only use two wires.

Are we missing something? (me, I or us?)

I think he wants to gut everything in the headlight bucket.

I swooped this 99 sporty diagram from somewhere. Should help you figure it out.

If your '98 is the same as my '92, this is the schematic I made for mine.

Just cut all the bullshit out and you'll see how easy it is. You literally just splice the same colored wires together. You can use my diagram to just delete what you're not going to use.

There is not a garage you can use? Wiring (atleast for me) wasnt a quick and easy project.

Got my bars internally wired rushed one side and had to redo it all looks so much better. Also clipped off my turnsignals in the front and tucked the wires up under the tank. What are you guys doing with all the connectors that are inside the headlamp? They will look kind of ghetto in front of the neck I was thinking maybe under the tank if possible I'm going to try to lift the front of the tank maybe an inch if that so maybe I can hide them there idk yet. Can't wait to have this done I still got to fabricate a light bracket and pull of my reflectors and belt guard and front fender trying to clean it up as best as possible still debating if I'm going to run the speedo or not

Cut them out completely and just splice them with like colored wires on the other side of them bucket, if you know what I mean.

I sat there staring at that shit for hours, with all those harnesses and shit, then I said fuck it and cut them out. As soon as I did that, it was 100% easier.

I cut it out and spliced it all together it seems to work ok the only problem I'm having is the left blinker just stays bright when I hit the button I noticed that there is a orange/white wire coming from each hand control and one from the main harness I kinda guessed witch was witch maybe that's my problem I'm left with a black I am assuming is headlight ground and a yellow i think it was witch I believe is either high or low beam correct? My old ass Lucas fog light bulb burnt out so now I have to track one down before I can finish this thing up. No more work for tonight it decided to rain on me

On your signals: It sounds like your left signal is not connected to the circuit that has the flasher unit in it. On your headlight circuit :Apples and Oranges maybe but my 83 sporty had a Yellow wire , a White wire (High/Low beam ) and black for ground, if I remember right.
I will be doing the same thing you are eventually. I remember changing a burned-out headlight and being absolutely fucking amazed at how much SHIT was stuffed inside the headlight bucket. Sounds like you just about got it though.

I just did some wiring shit in my 98 sporty and I'm pretty sure that yellow is low, white or gray is high and black is ground. I ran it so just high is always on

I messed with my bike a bit more today tore the wiring all back apart and come to find out it was just a bad bulb so all is well its all back together also got a chance to take the belt guard and front fender off finally still have to disconnect the speedometer and tuck the wires away but it's looking good I ordered up a Avon style front tire cuz I'm to poor for a real one and I hate the look of the stock I'll post some pics
